  1. I'm pretty good about getting up when I should, normally.....unless I'm really zonked. Then I can hit the snooze button endlessly & never even know I have. I dream deeply.

But the real problem in our house is my 16-yr-old son Brennan. This is a kid you need dynamite to awaken, and he's been this way his whole life. I finally bought him a really cool present last Christmas, though I think his parents appreciate it more than perhaps he does.....it's an alarm shaped like a hand grenade that you pull the pin on, and then toss into bed with the recalcitrant sleeper. In about 10 seconds it begins to emit a piercing alarm, which won't shut off until the pin is re-inserted.

Works great as long as Mom or Dad keeps the pin until the kid gets up! :thumbup :lol

My older brother was the same way. One time i bought him an alarm that had the sound of a rooster crowing. It was very loud and annoying and woke up everyone in the house instantly....except him of course. :lol

  2. This brings to mind my experience from the Tweedy show i saw at the Vic a couple of years ago. One of the songs Jeff played was "Dash 7." That song could easily fit the "obscure die-hard fan request" description. Before that show, "Dash 7" was one of those songs that i did not pay too much attention to. In fact, right after Jeff played it, there was kind of a muted reaction to it from most of the crowd. i remember he said something like "why aren't more people clapping for that song? I've gotten requests to play that song for the past ten years!" The funny thing is that since i heard him play it at that show, whenever i play AM, thats one of the songs that i appreciate and pay attention to. I certainly pay more attention to it than i did before. I guess the point i am trying to make is that i like it when i hear songs that i don't know. Sometimes it can open people up to things that they didn't appreciate before. I've never been one to quibble over set lists either way. I have to say that i did enjoy hearing "Hell Is Chrome, Hummingbird and Less Than You Think last night too. He hadn't played "Hell Is Chrome" In a long time either, if i remember correctly.

  3. Hey max! It's no collector's item or anything, but it was my personal copy of the final report from the "Bring Wilco to Fort Wayne" project which is attempting to bring the band to our fair city. If you want, you can read a pdf of that same report at here (click on "what we found 4-4-07"). For example: Next band at the Embassy? Stix. :dontgetit

I was designated to deliver Jeff and Sue's packet in person at the show if I could (and I did pass it on to Sue :thumbup ). Other copies have been sent to TMM Management and High Road Touring, and delivered by hand to Embassy Theatre management, Embassy board of directors, Downtown Improvement District, city council, etc. The guys behind this project are huge fans and are very persistent and determined to make change. It's really way overdue. We have to get these people out of the 1980's.

Edie let me take a look at that book. I was impressed with the intensity of the report. It's very convincing. With that kind of effort, I cant see how you wouldn't get the band to play there eventually. Good luck to everyone involved. I hope you succeed.

Really now.....Styx? My God, you've got to be kidding me. I cant find the vomit emotocon, so i'll just use this instead. :ohwell

  4. I was also at the show last night. Looks like I just missed getting a request in. I was standing in line behind "Katie," who requested "Remember the Mountain Bed." Bummer I didn't get a request in, but definitely a good show.

I had debated not going to the show due to a lack of funds, but there's a chance that this will be my last show for awhile. I'm graduating college and moving to Lincoln, NE to go to dental school. Hopefully Jeff got a good impression when he played in Lincoln last year and will be back! Anyway, I'm really glad that I went last night. It was easily worth the $100!

Where can I get a copy of this show? For some reason I can't get into bt.viachicago.org! Is it down? Are shows being posted elsewhere?

I would imagine the show will be posted within the next few weeks. It'll probably be on bt.etree or dimeadozen or a similar site. A little patience is required, but it'll be worth it. :)

  5. Ok, where do i start? What a terrific show that was. I got to hear lots of songs that aren't usually played, including my personal request "You Are My Face," which is currently my favorite song on SBS. I really wasn't sure if he was going to play that one, but i am very pleased that i was there to witness the first public performance of such a great song and i am grateful to Jeff for playing it. I always loved hearing him do "The Auld Triangle" too. That was another highlight that stood out for me. Jeff was really funny up there, more so than usual. He interacted very well with the audience, which was very well behaved, talking only in between songs. It made for a terrific atmosphere.

I met so many new faces last night: Edie, Scott, Johnny(thanks for the sandwich), Brianne, Allison, lessthanithink(i forgot your real name, i apologize) and the legendary LouieB. I'm sure im forgetting a few others. It was nice seeing you again, Wendy. Thanks for protecting my new poster from potential damage during the show. I cant for the next Chicago concert. I plan on "being there." Thanks again, everybody, for helping to make it such a great night.

  6. I'm just suggesting that some slack be cut because it is clear this guy has it coming to him posting something like that on a Wilco board. I've seen a lot of "rants" on this board and most of them are incoherent messes of anger. Snow Ships made some decent points and maybe some people should consider some of what he has to say. Don't get me wrong, Wilco are my favorite band of all time, but no band is perfect and sometimes people tend to forget that.

That i can agree with. Neither Jeff Tweedy nor Wilco are perfect, which is actually why i admire them so much. Knowing all of the issues and imperfections that they have overcome to make music actually endears me to them that much more. I agree with the opinion that on SBS, Tweedy seems to be showing a side of himself that he has always wanted to come out. He's been through a lot of shit and has finally come out the other side with his body. mind, and soul intact and the album reflects that peaceful mood. I don't think SBS is their best record, or my favorite(not yet, anyway) but it certainly is not an irrelevant album.

  7. Yes, but in any discussion of art, lit., music etc. It is usually more persuasive to provide a decent example when making an umbrella statement like "I realize Wilco are a boring band fronted by a musically empty soul-cougher" and why would you follow that up by "I Still Love Them"? Thats like saying this band is freakin dumb and repugnant, but I like them because I am the same.

Right. I'm not saying he's completely wrong but I don't understand his angle. "I still love them. They are really good but my goodness, don't they suck? They are so boring.' It's hard to make a case that you still like the band. There are plenty of contradictory statements in the argument. A few may be valid, but its Kind of a strange post...hard to respond to and harder still to agree with it.

  8. I tried ordering the CD/DVD combo thinking that it would be eligible to the free video download (like it says on the order page), but the download info is not showing up in the cart. There's a statement on the cart page that states I don't have the required items to get the download..bummer. If I place the CD only order in the cart..the download is listed. Anybody else have this issue.

    Thanks!

I'm thinking that maybe the video download will be part of the DVD.

  9. I didnt get the email yet. This is a myspace bulletin from the band sent out today....the DVD will be called Shake It Off.

Subject Hear the New Album on Monday

    Body: Greetings friends,

As part of our ongoing effort to rock the homes, offices, dorms, and internet cafes of America and the world -- we're starting another on-demand stream of Sky Blue Sky on Sunday night at 12:01am US Central time and continuing it non-stop for 24 straight hours. Make a note of it.

Also, we've just decided to release a "deluxe version" of SBS that will include a DVD feature film by our good friends and cohorts Brendan Canty and Christoph Green (Sunken Treasure, Burn to Shine). Over the last year or so they've been filming rehearsals, interviews about the record, behind the scenes stuff, etc. and have put together a 48 minute film we're calling "Shake it Off' that we're confident you're gonna dig. Preorder it here.

More tour dates for June (mostly eastern half of North America) will be on the site next week. Be sure to check back.

Peace and have a nice weekend.

  10. I'm in too.

I'm impressed that the facebook network has as many Wilco related groups as they do. I joined a few others that i looked up

after i joined the SBS. There's even an Uncle Tupelo group and a Jay Bennett group.

FYI, there is one group there that pisses me off...the supposed fan/idiot who ruined a concert and got punched by Tweedy last year decided to make a facebook group about the incident, complete with a link to the pitchfork article and the youtube video documenting his couple minutes of fame. I suspect he did it to continue to bring some further undeserved attention to himself. Idiot.

Luckily, most people who joined the group(i wasnt among them) were apparently Wilco fans who just wanted to rip on him. Serves him right. I dont really want to post a link to the site, simply b/c i feel the best thing to do is just ignore it.

  11. I've been waiting for this news for at least the last decade.....

    March 20, 2007, 5:40 PM ET

    Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

After being out of print for more than a decade, the two studio albums from all-star band the Traveling Wilburys will return to the marketplace in a variety of formats June 12 via Wilbury Records/Rhino, Billboard.com has learned.

"Traveling Wilburys Volume 1" and "Traveling Wilburys Volume 3" will be available together in one package with bonus tracks and a DVD of rare footage, as a deluxe linen-bound edition, a vinyl set and a digital bundle. The DVD boasts a 24-minute documentary and five music videos.

The Wilburys formed in 1988 after Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison assembled at a California studio to record a B-side for the Harrison single "This Is Love."

The resulting song, "Handle With Care," was instead released under the Wilburys name, with the artists posing as a band of brothers. It went on to reach No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the "Volume 1" album hit No. 3 on The Billboard 200. The reissued version of the album includes the previously unreleased tracks "Maxine" and "Like a Ship."

Orbison died in late 1988 before a second album could be completed; it was eventually released as "Volume 3" in 1990. The set is expanded here with the B-side "Runaway" and "Nobody's Child," which was released on a benefit album for Romanian orphans.

  12. Si also quoted Pat Tillman as saying the war was illegial. He apparently told some of the guys in his unit that he felt this way. I guess he felt it was a duty to serve his country in war, but he didnt agree with the Iraq war's aims.

The SI article really paints a different picture of Pat and his family than the rest of the media has, yet the Tillman brothers are no less heroic, in my opinion at least, for feeling the way they do.

  13. thats a very good reason. man, my floor (im in a dorm) went absolutely nuts. i also retract my earlier comment. i actually gained some respect for matt leinart; he had a hell of a game til the 4th quarter, and i think he has a bright future in the NFL

Agreed....I was gonna say that, and forgot to put that in. That guy has the goods. He was the only Cardinal who didnt do a Dennis Green Special and fold in the forth quarter. Even in that last drive, he took it right to the Bears and we were fortunate to win in spite of his effort.
