  1. As most have said - definately bring your kids to the show - it is a great way to make lasting memories with your kids! My son turned 1 year old this year and he has seen Andrew Bird, The New Pornographers, Brandi Carslile, Bon Iver, Cloud Cult, Brother Ali, Jake One and many other rappers at Sound Set 09 (local rap festival). All have been all ages, outdoor shows during the day. When he gets old enough to stay up late I will bring him to indoor shows too. As for hearing protection, we bough him a pair of kids ear muffs (Muffs on Amazon).

    Enjoy! :music

  2. MPR Story

Twin Cities singer/songwriter Jeff Hanson was found dead in his apartment on Friday. He was often compared to Elliott Smith - and in my opinion was a very close second. I feel very fortunate that I finally got to see him April 30 at the 7th Street Entry. The show was unreal - I never got to see Elliott, so I am very lucky to have seen Jeff at least once. Jeff will be missed.

You can hear a few tunes streamed on his website. RIP Jeff. Jeff Hanson's Website

  3. I went to this game on a whim because i was in Waukesha for work yesterday and my buddy scored us some sweet tickets. I had no idea Jeff was throwing out (one of the) first pitches and was shocked when I heard his name. He threw from the mound and threw pretty damn hard - and the pitch made it to the catcher (which the other first pitches did not). All in all it was a good first pitch considering how bad first pitches usually are. Based on that pitch he may get signed by the Brewers as their starting pitching this year has been awful :stunned

  4. I don't remember a day when Huey Lewis was "super cool".

    Huey Lewis

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Huey Lewis (born Hugh Anthony Cregg, III on July 5, 1950) is an American musician, songwriter and occasional actor who has been super cool since 1982. He sings lead vocals and plays harmonica for his band Huey Lewis and the News, in addition to writing or co-writing many of the band's songs. The band is perhaps best known in American popular culture for their third album Sports and their contribution to the soundtrack of the 1985 feature film Back to the Future. Huey Lewis also played with the band Clover from 1972 to 1979 when he was not super cool.

    Found it for you!

  5. nice!

i was not in the mood for live music just yet after SXSW so I bailed (that and i'm not exactly HUGE on both Carl and the Broken West's latest records). glad to hear it was a great show though and hopefully a good turnout.

i saw him at the Triple Rock on the Slow Wonder tour and it was a ton of fun as well.

now if i'd known Nicole was touring with him i might have made an effort to get there :lol

Yeah, I did notice you weren't there - I usually see you up near the front at most shows. Nicole only sang on 3 songs, but she/they were unbelievable. It was a good turn out, but i don't know if it was sold out...but it was a crowded front floor.

  6. Well last night solidified AC Newman's status as a pop God. He and his band put on a high energy show that was just as much fun as a New Pornographers show. Instead of Neko we got Nicole Atkins (my new rock star girlfriend ) for 3 songs who I immediately fell in love and the violin player was also cute. He played most of the new record and a lot of Slow Wonder - no NP songs. Some funny banter too - he said this was the best Minneapolis show ever - including those early Replacements shows! :lol

The Broken West was also good. Not as tight, but a very solid opener. If you get the chance to see this show I highly recommend it - a great double bill.

  7. I am studying in New Zealand this semester.

If you are from New Zealand, what or where should I go?

I'm not from NZ, but I recently took a trip there - where to go depends on which island you are on - North or South? We were on the south island and really enjoyed hiking on Franz Josef glacier, hiking around Mt. Cook, Milford Sound, checking out the penguins in Omaru, and bungy jumping near Queenstown (I did the Kawarau Bridge jump). You can stay in Holiday Parks for around $15-20 a night (we were tent camping - they have kitchens, bathrooms and showers) or camp on government land for $5 (no facilities).

If you are on the north island I can't help you!

  8. Regardless of what you think of Cassel he is way better than what the chiefs have and he tore up the AFC west this year...of course that woudl include the Chiefs too.

I wouldn't say WAY better - Thigpen had his own kind of breakout year and only threw 3 less TDs than Cassel did and he didn't have Welker and Moss to throw to. Thigpen is also a better rushing QB than Cassel.

The Chiefs are on the hook for over $14 mil per year for Cassel - not that big of a steal...

  9. Got back last night...simply put it was amazing. Couldn't believe how awesome it was. It was something else and thank you for all the tips everyone. I will post pictures as soon as I upload them and figure out how to put them on here! =P

I did buy a 'uke but it is not all Koa. For a new 'uke player I couldn't see paying over $600. I didn't stop at Scotty's although I passed it multiple times. I got the Uke in Old Town Koloa at a 'uke show there from a guy named Joe. Couldn't have been nicer and got a good deal with a nice case. Planning on learning more chords this week once I beat the jet lag. We did catch the Waimea Town Festival on Saturday and they had an awesome Uke contest. Some really amazing talent! It was the capper to an unreal vacation.

I'll try and post those pics here and on the new photography thread as some of them came out really well and I'd love some critique as a new photog buff.

    Mahalo all!

Update: Here's a couple of pics - I can't figure it out. Any help with uploading photos?

Did you guys eat at the restaurant with the cats walking around in Old Koloa? We love that place - it has cheap eats that are pretty tasty. Also, did you happen to walk through the shopping area and see the impressionist painter James Hoyle? He has his main gallary there and he paints mainly scenes from Kauai. His stuff is amazing!

  10. usually when a 'cherry ghost' posts a new song, all they get is shit about it. i post a bit of shit, and i get shit for posting said shit. JESUS CHRIST!

Sorry - I just thought it was a tad rude and I was in a bad mood this morning - the dude has been a member for almost 2 years now, probably just doesn't post much...like me. Anyway, you should really say JESUS CHRIST ON FALCOR!!
