  1. Buy any and all of them. I think Spoon is one of the best bands out there and one of the most underrated. If any band should be playing stadiums, it should be them. You really can't go wrong. :thumbup

  2. I too was listening to the Jayhawks way before I heard of Wilco or Uncle Tupelo. I remember around 1998 my buddy went CD shopping and I asked him what he bought. He said he got some Captain Beefheart and an Uncle Tupelo CD. When i asked him about the UT he said I probably wouldn't like it. Thanks. I had to wait another 3 years to discover them and Wilco thatnks to a different buddy.

I have never heard Bunkhouse, so my top Jayhawks records go something like this:

    1. Hollywood Town Hall

    2. Tomorrow The Green Grass

    3. Blue Earth

    4. The Sound of Lies

    5. Live at the Women's Theatre

    6. Rainy Day Music

    7. Smile

  3. How so?

To me, it was more of a teaser. Pixar has always been consistent in not revealing too much of a movie in advance of the release. The most recent trailer is the first one to let us know that there's another robot in the movie than Wall-E.

25 minutes of the movie was recently shown at Wondercon, and everything I've read online suggests it's visually breath-taking and tugs at the emotions. Stanton is a big fan of the 70mm cinemetography used in the great sci-fi movies like 2001 Space Odyssey. He went to great lenths to make Wall-E look like the old sci-fi movies. I hear there's great visuals of outerspace.

Wall-E may be a character that everyone finds loveable. Stanton says he got the idea for Wall-E's look from binoculars. He observed years ago that, when turned up and down, the binoculars appeared to have two different emotions. Maybe the movie will be a little corny, but based on Pixar's track record, I'm guessing not.

Personally, there's not a movie in 2008 I'm looking more forward to.

Are you really Andrew Stanton or do you just work for Pixar?

  5. Fuck the Eli haters. I've been saying it for months. Fuck 'em. Every Giants fan is the biggest Eli fan now, even though they couldn't say enough bullshit about him this year. Fuck 'em.

First of all GREAT game. Unbelievable. But Eli is still a Douche Bag. The Giants Defense was the obvious MVP of the superbowl and they should have recieved the MVP award as a unit. They shut down the best offense in the history of the NFL. That last sack with about 40 seconds left looked like a tidal wave surging over Brady and it totally shut down any hope to get into field goal range which would have sent the game into overtime. After the sack it was desparation heaves down the field to Moss (who was actually open somehow spiltting 3 defenders and getting behind the defense). So I still hate Eli Manning in all his glorious cake-faced douchebaggery. If not for the circus catch by David Tyree and the unbelievable play of the Giants defense, we would be saying how Eli blew it again.

I know I will feel the rath of Giants fans, but that is how I feel. All that said though, the Giant deserved this Super as much as anyone. Winning what, 10 in a row on the road now - and 4 straight away playoff games. That is impressive.

  6. Golden Smog's set list:

1: Looking Forward to Seeing You

    2: Glad & Sorry

    3. To Call My Own

    4. Love and Mercy (Brian Wilson cover)

    5. Beautiful Mind

    6. Until You Came Along

Short, but sweet. At one time the crowd started the wave and Gary said "Well there is a first!" When Obama came out he thanked "The Golden Smog" and his friend Jeff Tweedy.

Barack is a very inspirational speaker. I highly suggest seeing him live if you get the chance. His speaches are great on TV and radio, but it doesn't compare to watching it live.

  7. True story. I am an environmental geologist and I have to take lead-in-drinking water samples from many residential properties I work on. The real risk is from older homes with old pipes. The problem isn't usually the pipes, but the solder used to connect said pipes. If you are worried about lead in your water the simple answer is to run your tap for at least a minute before drinking or using for cooking - this flushes out the high lead that concentrates over night when the water sits in the pipes. Or simply get a Brita or Pure type water filter which removes 99% of lead when used properly.

  8. According to the Bergen Record's Bob Klapisch, the Twins came back to the Yankees with an offer of Johan Santana for Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy and a prospect on Monday, only to be turned down.

If true, the Yankees declined the chance to acquire Santana without giving up Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain. Klapisch also believes the Red Sox had both Jacoby Ellsbury and Jon Lester off the table by the time the Twins chose to accept the Mets' offer.

If this is true then I can ALMOST see why they went with the Mets. They really should have dealt him during the winter meetings. They couldn't hold on to him this year because Santana had a no trade claus and said repeatedly that if he wasn't traded this spring he would wait it out until free agency in 2009. The Twins would have lost him and would have only gotten 2 draft picks for their effort. I can see why they pulled the trigger when they did, I am just dissapointed with what could have been. Again, an outfield of Young, Ellsbury, and Cuddyer would have ruled for years to come.

  9. I'm not sure you're following the progression of the thread, though. It's been mentioned a few times that the feeling is that the Twins probably burned some bridges in their dealings with the NYY and BOS. Also, that they still got #2, 3, 4 and 7 top prospects from the NYM. Which isn't bad.

I guess I read that, but i didn't know that everyone agreed. I read that BOS may have taken Lester off the table, but that Ellsburry was still up for trade along with some lesser pitching prospects. I don't know if NYY was ready to depart with Hughes any longer, but it would have been worth another try. Anyway, yeah, we are all on the same page now :cheers

However, I am still not happy with the end result of the trade...

  10. Smallest. Sample. Size. Ever.

That is like saying "Mike Redmond has a career batting average against Tom Glavine of .400+.

    Best. Player. Ever."

It is quite obvious you didn't read my post. Cool.

I read your post as saying it was a good trade for the Mets (aka bad for the Twins). I was agreeing with you. The worst trade ever was in reply to the Twins choice to go with the Mets. They had the worst offer of the 3 teams in the mix. As a Twins fan I would have rather traded straight up for Phil Hughes or for Jacoby Ellsburry. We didn't even get a #1 prospect from the Mets, very dissapointing. So i guess it is quite obvious that you didn't read my post...cool.

  11. I love Santana, this is a great trade for the Mets. Gomez and Humber aren't very good, I wouldn't have done Dontrelle for the two of them. I'm surprised they didn't have to give up Martinez or Pelfrey, who I think are better prospects.

And it's also slightly (not much, but slightly) troubling that his HR and BB rates went up last year while his K rate went down last season. He's still the best or 2nd best pitcher in the league. But if he falls off even a little bit (which is entirely probable), it'll be a terrible contract.

Santana's ERA in Shea is a pultry 0.60. His ERA vs. NL teams is under 3.00. He'll do fine in the NL.

    Worst. Trade. Ever.

  12. Out of the 3 pitching prospects, only one has a winning record in the minors. Kevin Mulvey is 12-10 in his minor league career. The other 2 pitchers combine for a minor league record of 27-33. Phil Humber is 0-0 in the majors with a 6.00 ERA in 5 games. Carlos Gomez strikes out 1 in 5 ABs and has a minor league avg. of .278. Ellsburry had a minor league avg. of .313 snd only struck out roughly 1 in 9 ABs. He hit .353 in the majors and played a roll in the world series win. Boston would have also thrown in some top pitching prospects. Why didn't we trade with Boston again? Or for Hughes (25-8 in the minors)?? Piss me off :realmad
