what do you think is the best guitar (electric)

Honestly, I'm not sure about the Gilmour guitar, I haven't seen the DVD. But, if it is new, odds are, it is the same, as most Jets have the Dynasonic pickup/Bigsby combo that mine does. I will try and post a pic of it later for ya (at work now). I would love, love, love to get another vintage Jazzmaster. I bought my '66 in 1996 for $1400. Now, one in excellent condition with the block inlays like mine, goes for $5-6000. Too steep for me right now. Hopefully, someday soon. -
Didn't necessarily wanna go here, but... I feel like we are going places that we don't really know of by insinuating or stating that Rick Rubin is simply using Johnny as a cash cow. By all accounts of people who really know the two, they became very close friends (some might say 'best friends') over the years they worked together, talking and praying together everyday, sometimes for hours. Maybe Johnny put it to Rick to make sure these songs were released or maybe Rick feels that this is an important artistic statement of a dying friend. My point is, we shouldn't assume...

Just got a Gretsch Silver Jet w/ Bigsby that I am loving, having wanted one for 10 years or so. I also own a Jimmy Page Signature Les Paul that has the most unbelievable neck I have ever touched (molded from Jimmy's '59 Paul). I used to own a 1966 Jazzmaster with the block inlays. It was my favorite guitar ever. I had to sell it about 8 years ago when times were tight. It is probably my biggest regret. All of them: fantastic guitars. -
I'm not sure that a panic disorder would ever contribute to creativity. That seems like an odd link. However, there have been many studies done espousing a great link between manic depression and creativity.

That can all be done at the front of house board. Or with an a/b pedal as discussed earlier in the thread. Using two pickups for that application would make no sense. It is possible, but it wouldn't make any sense. That is a cool pic, memphisto. I guess that is a radio station, maybe. Surely not a recording studio with no mics. As good as these pickups are, you wold never record through them, unless it was some really strange application, and I guess anything is possible with Wilco. That guitar is awesome. Beautifully broken-in and aged. It just looks like it has songs in it. Wait

You would have to be freakishly obsessive about your tone to ever have any reason to even imagine having 2 pickups on your acoustic, and even that doesn't answer your question. Surely, he doesn't have two pickups on there.
-
Oooohhhh, I didn't realize you were looking for those specifics. Although, it does say he puts them in all his acoustics. Strange. Probably is a Fishman in the J45 then, but, if he likes the M1 in all his other acoustics, I'm sure it would be a good choice for you.

Jeff uses a L.R. Baggs M1 pickup. Follow this link (scroll halfway down): http://www.lrbaggs.com/buzz/ "Jeff Tweedy with Wilco adopts the M1 as his acoustic pickup of choice. Tweedy's guitar tech, Frank Montuoro, recently informed us here at L.R. Baggs that Jeff Tweedy had heard another band member playing the M1 on stage and liked it so much that he is outfitting all of his acoustics with it for the upcoming Summer Wilco tour."

Two other mags I really love from the UK are the Wire (very avant-garde, very special writing), and Mojo. The Wire printed three of my favorite articles ever (Radiohead in '00, Bjork in '00, Wilco two years ago). Mojo printed the most thorough examination of Radiohead and Thom Yorke's creative process, and its links to his depression, that I have ever seen. My favorite article ever. I have a journalism degree, and would also love to do more music writing, but right now, all my time goes to audio engineering work. Do you mind me asking how you are going about getting started? Have you e -

I had a hunch Guitar Player was the best. I don't think I would go anywhere near a Guitar World. As far as regular music mags go, I like Magnet, Fader, or Filter. Spin used to be alright, but I haven't read it in a long time. It seems they are going the way of Rolling Stone, the MTV-way. I mean Spin has Beyonce on the cover this month. What I have heard of the Thom Yorke solo album, I love. Can't wait to hear the rest on Tuesday. -
I wouldn't doubt that they have $500,000 worth of gear, but I would very seriously doubt if they had 10 B3's. What would be the point? Especially considering they don't even have a true B3 player, or didn't at that time. But as far as the total dollar amount goes, not that hard to do for a group that has been on a major label for 10 years. All that stuff can be written into contracts, paid for with record advances, etc. I mean let's assume they get a $100,000 advance for an album, these guys aren't runnin out buyin' Mercedes. They are buyin' gear. Lucky bastards. Like someone else said

I was kind of curious if you guys liked any better than others? I haven't bought one in about a decade.
