Rise from the ashes!
It would be so seminal!

That's not a mistake on my part. That's how they spell it.
Oh, I know. I'm just always in editing mode, even when I'm not being paid for it.

I was watching the film 'A Vicious Kind' and I couldn't get over the fact that this guy - Adam Scott - reminds me of Jeff Tweedy. What do you think?
Bob
Kinda. If you stare at him for a bit.

Vegas show (starts at 3 a.m. EST) is being webcast.

Speaking of things being surprises, Spoon tweeted this today:
We'll be playing the Soft Effects EP as an encore in LA this week(Still cool though.)

fucking great show...when Nastanovich is screaming from the edge of the stage during 'Unfair' and your arm is leaping out of its socket in a fist pump motion, you know it's a good show.
Wish I had half of Nastanovich's energy.
The four Central Park shows last week were probably the highlight of my year. One of my favorite bands (a band I never thought I'd see live) kicked ass in one of my favorite cities for four nights (including my birthday). For a music geek, it doesn't get much better than that.

Yeah, saw him open for DBT many years ago and loved him.
That's when I first heard him, too. Love, love, love Mescalito.

Cher looks Carmen Sandiego-ish in that pic.

And as for concerts, if you follow a band online, there are NEVER any real surprises at concerts.
I was thinking this the other day. A couple of times I've known in advance that a band I was going to see was playing a particular cover. While I was still excited to hear said cover, knowing that it was going to be played took a little of the luster off. Kind of like knowing you're getting something really kick-ass for you birthday; you still want it, but it's a little better when it's a surprise.

So what expectations do you have when you see a show? Do you care what you hear live? Is there one song that would make your night? If you saw back to back shows would you be dissapointed in hearing the same exact setlist back to back? If a band tours behind a new album would you like the band to heavly feature it at the expense of older catelog songs being cut (9 times out of 10 I would rather hear the new stuff)?
It depends on how many times I've seen the band. For instance: I've seen Wilco an insane number of times and, with the exception of the Mermaid Avenue stuff and some rarities, I've heard the majority of their catalog. So if Wilco plays all new songs the next time I see them (I can dream, right?), I would be more than OK with that.
On the flip side: The first time I saw Ryan Adams was right after Cold Roses came out. But half of the set list was songs from Jacksonville City Night and 29 (which hadn't been released yet). I was a little disappointed, because when I see someone live the first time (or two), I want to hear a good mix of past/present/favorites.

Times New Viking is opening a string of dates, including the Atlanta date at the end of this month, which I am attending.
Here's a listing of Pavement's NYC shows and the opening acts:

Thanks. I'm trying to figure out how long the shows are running. Basia Bulat is playing the late show at the Mercury Lounge on the 23rd, and I'm really hoping I can make it over there.

no joke, but i used an automated toilet yesterday. it was talking to me from the moment i stepped in!. telling me which button to close the door, also i have a 10 minute time limit, that i have to wash my hands in order for it to flush, telling me how to re-open the door and then saying "thanks for using our services".
gee, men go in there for some time alone!
and i wonder what will happen if you overstay the 10 min time limit?. will the door fly open and an inspector will slap a parking ticket on my arse?
That sounds terrible.

That's a nice setlist.

I'll be at the Radio City show. I'm so pumped to finally see these guys.

The festival I thought was too chaotic betwen taking school busses and the 10 different passes they were selling and different coded wrist bands!
They really do need to be better organized. When I purchased my ticket a month or so ago, I was told that I couldn't buy a reserved-seating ticket to go with my day ticket. Saturday, the festival worker at the entrance to the reserved-seating section told me I needed the special wristband in addition to my day pass to get in. So I went back to the ticket area and told them I needed a reserved-seating ticket to go with my day pass, and they sold it to me. But when I went to exchange my ticket for a wristband, I was told that I didn't need another wristband. Then I had to get a refund, which too for-freaking-ever.
But enough complaining. Jeff was awesome, as usual. I really wish he could have played longer.

Does anyone know if the shows so far have had opening acts? (Or if there will be for the NYC shows?)

He wore his Nudie Suite red jacket, shirt underneath and black jeans
That seems like an odd thing to wear. Not that I'm an expert in dunk-tank wear.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't heard all of these, but I'll definitely check them out.

I want to make a mix CD for a friend who's expecting her first child, but I'm drawing a huge blank. All I can come up with is "My Darling," "Teach Your Children" and "Long-Haired Child." The people of Via Chicago seem to be good at this sort of thing, so... any suggestions?

Ah, thanks.

5. The story behind New Madrid.
Anyone mind sharing?

Jeff is on from 4:45 to 6. Schedule's here.

The guy I talked to said the $8 ticket couldn't be used with the day ticket. He made it sound like there would be seats set up only for the night headliner. Hmm... Of course you talked to someone much more recently than I did, so perhaps that's changed.
Why don't they just put all this info on the website? It would save everyone a lot of hassle.
