  1. I mostly stick with CDs just because I like to have the physical product. With all of the streaming going on on various sites, I can be pretty sure that I'm not wasting my money buying something I'm going to listen to only once. Plus, amazon.com has some great deals if you pre-order or buy CDs pretty close to the release date (I just bought New Pornographers, The Hold Steady, Free Energy and The National for about $32).

But I've been laid off twice over the last year and taken huge pay cuts at my new jobs, so I join eMusic whenever they have an irresistible deal. I realize there's tons of great music I haven't heard, so most of the stuff I download is artists I'm unfamiliar with but have heard good things about. The only time I buy from iTunes is when I want one of those one-hit-wonder-type songs.

  2. We flew down to San Francisco for the Drive-By Truckers show @ the Fillmore Saturday night. Then saw Braden's perfect game the next day. It was the proverbial icing on the cake. My husband, a baseball nut, could not believe our luck. After all, had the Giants not been on the road, we probably would have been sitting at AT&T Park that afternoon rather than at Oakland Coliseum.

On deck: Wilco @ Snowmass, CO followed by the the Reds vs.the Rockies Labour Day weekend!

Drive-By Truckers and an A's perfect game in less than 24 hours? Jealous!

  3. I've never noticed any hate for the song in itself, but I think some people were growing tired of it as a staple in setlists. I love Shot in the Arm and ITMWLY, but I could go six years without hearing them live and be much, much happier.

    This.

  4. So, so happy for Braden. I had the bad fortune of being at work during the game, but I was listening on my iPhone. Let's just say that my level of productivity over the last few innings was inversely proportional to Braden's awesomeness.

  5. And A-Rod was completely out of line to call the pitcher a "nobody" in the press just because they had a disagreement.

This is what bothered me most about the whole situation. I'm not saying Braden didn't overreact, but just because a guy has "a handful of wins," he shouldn't say anything if he thinks he has been disrespected just because the other guy is a superstar? (And in case A-Rod didn't notice, one of those wins had just come against his team. ;) )

Also, while it's obviously not as well-known as not lollygagging around the bases after hitting a home run, I wouldn't say nobody has heard of this rule. From all the stuff I read, it seemed a fair number of people had heard of it.

  6. Convincing other people to be patient at stop lights. It really is only like 10 seconds.

Mine is approaching two minutes (yes, I'm a dork and actually timed it once). Obviously in the grand scheme of a whole day that's insignificant. But in stoplight terms that's ridiculous, and when I'm running late it seems like an eternity.

  7. I ask every customer who comes to my line at the wine store if they found everything they were looking for. Obviously, it's a little more difficult to find a specific Barolo than a box of Captain Crunch, but it's often a pretty useful question. Lots of people are too timid to ask if they can't find something, and being able to determine what they wanted to find, but couldn't, is good customer service.

You're right. There is absolutely no reason for that to bother me, but it does. But as you can probably tell from my list of pet peeves, I'm a little off. :lol
