fuck you mende!
right now it's 3:30 in the morning where I'm at. despite whatever I've said before, I really AM going to sleep right now. holy shit i have to be at work in 4 1/2 hours. the good news is that my sister is my boss, so i can pretty much get away with anything.
I'm listening to Kweller again....
-
I just fucked up a myspace message to you i'm pretty sure. oh well, i can use the excuse that it's 3 in the morning here... seriously to my friends from the other side of the globe i'm going to bed.
-
awww, i you guys. i just wish i didn't have to be at work in 5 hours and 15 minutes.
oh, shit.
-
but seriously, is 15 hours on a plane that horrible? . . . yeah I guess it is
my sister was in the peace corps a while back and i set out to visit her from Colorado to South Africa. That was 2 years ago and I still say if I never see the inside of an airplane again it's too soon...
My Wilco vibes are with you though...
-
so, it's... me, the brits and the aussies now, is it?
-
go to sleep now............ my darlin'
-
and now...
i really need to get to sleep... damn these shows that get me all worked up on a school night... fuck you ben kweller.
-
Awww, I love Graham and Miles both! My favorite Irish boys name is Cian, but from what I've heard it's pretty popular.
Lucero tonight!!!Robert - you'll have to tell me how it was! I'm seeing my first Lucero show in a couple of weeks!
-
and now...
-
So, for some reason, tonight was my first Ben Kweller show. Ever. I don't really know how this happened, as I've been a fan of his for... well, I guess since Sha Sha came out in 2002. It's been so long I can't even remember how I was introduced to him. I'm fairly certain that it was somehow Guster-related though.
I got to the Fox earlier than usual - I really wanted to get to my favorite spot at the railing. Mission accomplished. I love the Fox because they have a... ummm. server I guess who comes around and takes drink orders. I don't know what I'd call her. Waitress? Bar wench? Anyway, it's nice if you're by yourself you don't have to worry about losing your spot to hit the bar! Before the show she tapped me on the shoulder to see if I wanted anything. I turned around, she looked at me and said "Oh - ginger and whiskey?". Ummm, yeah. Heh. So it seems I spend quite a bit of time at the Fox Theatre in my favorite spot. Or it could be that she got me 2 whiskey & ginger ales just on Sunday night. Yeah, we'll go with that.
Oh - also, I somehow managed to drop my phone and spill my drink at the same time. It took talent, I'm telling you. My phone was OK, but my damn drink was almost full!!! I went to pick up the ice cubes to minimize the spillage and realized that among the whiskey and ginger ale sacrifice was a remnant of a joint. So I had the pleasure of intermittent wafts of whiskey and wet pot all night. Ha ha.
The show - it was amazing. The kid puts on a helluva show. He's got some great moves for a skinny white boy too. The band was obviously having a blast and they sounded great, except for the awful speaker noise when Ben hit the keys too hard. Here's what I remember of the setlist:
Run (Ben solo - guitar)
On My Way (Ben solo - guitar)
Thirteen (Ben solo - keyboard)
How It Should Be (sha sha) - band joins Ben
the rest is completely out of order, just me looking at my CDs and trying to remember...

Family Tree
Commerce, TX
Walk On Me
Make It Up
I Need You Back

I'm probably missing a couple, but oh well. I love that Sha Sha was nicely represented. Even the songs from On My Way sounded great. I realized it's been forever since I listened to that album, as there were a couple songs that I didn't even recognize. A great show, the crowd was really great and really into it. I did feel extremely old though, with all the college kids milling around. But I spotted a few other older folks, so all is good.
Yay Ben.

Maybe you could get Freaks & Geeks going again.
This is funny because Freaks And Geeks was what I was thinking about all the time I was reading this thread... that was a fan-fucking-tastic show!
Also, I was thinking that I would probaly watch this show, except that I don't really like football. I can't even tivo or dvr it because I don't have tivo or dvr. I only got cable a month and a half ago, for christ's sake.
Oh, and I have to admit that I am pretty much drunk right now. But anyway, Big Perm, congratulations! I hope your show does well. I don't watch much TV... I'm still pissed at everyone that Arrested Development was cancelled. But I won't hold it against you....

Careers and parenthood definitely put a crimp in the concert-going, especially weeknights.
Exactly why I choose neither career nor parenthood....
You guys are just pissing me off that M. Ward didn't come through CO....
I also missed guster in denver recently. mostly because i'm a cheap bastard. but also my sister couldn't go... probably the first CO guster show that we've missed in, like, 8 years...

Fuck those bastard concert-talkers.....
btw--i was exhausted from a LONG week of work, etc. but went to see BoH b/c you'd given them such a rad review. they were fucking fantastic!Yay!
I'm glad I could make a difference. I enjoyed their show SO much... a week later and I already can't wait to see them again. No doubt their album will be in my top ten of 2006.
Got Ben Kweller tomorrow... should be great.
-
I'll buy that. I don't know what it is, but there's something tres sexy about that E.... Hope you had a great time at the show! I'm sure you must be going through some kind of Jon Brion withdrawal...
-
their show may change a bit, but how much can really change in 8 months since you last saw her.
So? Jenny is smokin' hot. I have the most major of girl crushes on her. I don't know much about the Scissor Sisters, but it doesn't matter. I'd choose Jenny over anyone.
