  1. Thanks for the link.

I put this in the same category of most solo McCartney, which is to say that it is missing something. And that something is John.

ditto-something just happens when two great songwriters come together as the muses will. lennon/mca, jagger/richards, hunter/garcia. the sum is always so much more than the individual parts. although i think zeitgeist has ALOT to do with it. i mean, in 1968 anything lennon/mca did was probably incredible.

  2. ehhh i dont know when i think smart ass i think more of john lennon's wit. He just comes off as arrogant and not very intellegent at that.

Again never said that made me like his music any less i just think less of him.

i agree with this. i loved the song, but the interview here was painful. i just felt bad for the dudes in the band having to hang out with ryan and listen to his incoherent blatherings while stroking his ego. BUT-i do like his music. half of gold was fun. heartbreaker is pretty good. cold roses is amazing and could have been better as a single album. really hoping the new one is good. that jam before the song was amazing. just love midtempo mellow tunes with clean guitar ala garcia, pedal steel and you got it!

  3. I'm not sure why Goodnight Rose did not make the cut for Ryan's new album.....It's one of his best new tunes. My only hope is that he has plans for a second album this year. Goodnight Rose is just too damn good to not release.

it's the album opener if i'm not mistaken. great song.

  4. tried several times and Howe Gelb is finally clicking with me. Damn he is incredible. Any fans? I am wondering if he has any other side projects besides solo, GS, Arizon Amp? Also, any similar bands to him-aka-desert/rock/blues etc.

    thanks for the input!

  5. I think the dude is fouled up in some way - and yes, this is a WILCO board - so from time to time I may get upset at those who talk about Jeff in a music magazine interview that reads like a National Inquirer type deal.

To make you even more upset - I think Jay pushed this new SV album so that he could get it out before the next Wilco album.

I met the dude - and he acted like fucking Howard Hughes - so I am just not that fond of him these days.

I am not a FANBOY of anyone - living. I have met Jeff many times - he actually knows me by name.

    wow, you're so cool. :worship

  6. *when I used the c-word, it was a reference to the quote about Jeff Tweedy in the Learning How to Die book...sorry.

also, I dunno. Uncle Tupelo was his thing I think. After a few albums with Son Volt, all his melodies began sounding really, really similar. Nothing new either...all key of G barroom rock. Which has it's place, I admit, just not in my CD player.

actually his songs are not key of G bar band rock. his songs are consistently complicated with random tunings and quite original melodies compared to any music these days. i think a lot of his music 'sounds the same' the way Cash or Dylan's music sounds the same. he's definitely an old soul.

  7. this really doesn't surprise me. 3 dudes who could each have solo careers in one band can't last that long. cooley and hood are def in it together for the long haul. isbell was just a different bird, but it worked for a while. don't cooley and hood have new albums in the can?

looking forward to just two guitars and a bit of pedal steel. can't wait for new DBT.

  8. some how my copy of Bob Dylan's Beard has been deleted. Can anyone post it on yousendit or point me in the right direction. Thanks much.

Also, wasn't all that stuff posted on this site? Where did it go?

  9. add steve lillywhite to that list. the man is a genius. really pushes artists to work hard and produce excellence. :thumbup

steve lillywhite ruins albums buy artists that should at lest be listenable.

anyway, i like ethan johns. nice warm/sparse production.

  10. thanks for this update. so the fillmore and massy hall discs will be part of the boxset. glad i didn't buy them yet. i am counting on november for this release, but october would be nice. september better. the riverboat show will be so awesome! this is the only thing i have really looked forward to in the last 15 years. i am really waiting for box set II 72-82. that will be otherworldly!

  11. Oh man..you are so right.....and during the week, what is exactly the point of that?

We have had this convo before, but if clubs and groups want to attract a wider audience, they really should can the musican time and go with human being time. They would get a more diverse audience and maybe fill up the clubs better. I know here in Chicago some clubs have gone to all ages shows because they realize that even steady 20 somethings who usually fill their clubs are going to become 30 something and start having kids and stop going out all the time. Meanwhile the older folks (like me) don't come back when their kids are grown because they no longer have the stamina to stay out late or stand for hours waiting on groups or drink until they drop.

  12. left a mark kozelek show after about 3 songs. i guess you could call them songs. just meanderings. it's been said before on this board, he makes great records, but is such a damn lazy performer.

i have left several shows because it was late. that begs the question, why play so late at small/bar gigs? was really hoping to catch autumn defense here in atlanta, but when i found out it was on a tuesday night at a bar it was a no-go. luckily i saw them last time around on a weekend night, but even that is pushing it when the band doesn't come on until 11pm!

  13. oink has a system where people with extremely good ratios get access to high demand files first. After your ratio gets above a certain very high number you get super-power-user status, and have access to torrents early.

The thinking behind this is that these people will be most likely to seed for a while with good speeds. Thats where the torrent is right now and why some people can't see it on oink.

It will trickle down within a couple of hours.

good to know. makes sense since my ration is...well, i'll just keep that to myself.

  14. all good replies. thanks so much. it is like crack! i have only downloaded a few discs of commercial stuff. i also tell myself that its the 'sharers' or 'uploaders' that are getting busted. anyway, i think torrents are awesome for boots and out of print stuff. too bad we can't get all that centralized. anyway, good conversation here.
