  1. I love figuring out songs that you wouldn't hear often just on guitar... "Tempted" by Squeeze and Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" are my favorites to play right now.

i pretty much now every neil young and grateful dead song. play alot of originals. love major 7th chords! :cheers

  2. Don't become obsessive about it. Stick to the good ep's that were already mentioned or the mini albums like Pipe Dreams of the Instant Prince Whippet, Daredevil Stamp Collectior, Sunfish Holy Breakfast.

thanks so much for the advice. i have shyed away from gbv just so i wouldn't have to hunt down a bunch of stuff. will stick with the good stuff. peace. :cheers

  3. hey friends,

i am getting into GBV. ironically, i am from dayton, oh and never cared for them till now. i remember this dude playing them constantly in a record shop i worked at there in the mid 90s. anyway, can someone point me in the direction of a good online forum for GBV. also, is there an ftp of their stuff. finally, is it worth trying to get ALL of their singles and eps etc. i can just see their entire catalog of now rare stuff sitting in the bin at gem city records where i worked!

    thanks

  4. if steve hackett was gonna be with them, then this would be cool. all of this will be determined by the setlist. if the band does a bunch of stuff from the 70s and early 80s and does not do ANY solo material then it might be a good show. phil collins can still sing well and rutherford and banks i am sure are still pretty competent. gabriel or not, this could be interesting. it all depends on the setlist.

  6. well, i love the eagles. hotel california is one of those tunes i never tire of. there are several others as well. henley is great song writer. but his production is sooo bad. picked up inside job used a while back hoping he had some 21st century production. no go. sounds like it was produced in 1987. good songs just cheesy keyboards, back-up singers, drum machines ect. too bad his songs get missed in this chaos. i can handle the production on the hell freezes over originals so i am looking forward to a new eagles album. this will have a little adult contempo sheen tho. so if henley would just record with a regular band with timothy b. schmit on bass and back up vocals, then we would have a classic me thinks.

  7. Nope. You're just not "in the club" so to speak (of those who get his music). It's like Radiohead or Neil Young for me: I just don't get it and probably never will.

The only difference being, of course, that I dig a lot of the musicians Neil Young has influenced.

good point. guess maybe i am a little jealous of those who get it. glad folks are enjoying him.

  8. [will feel the need to make fun of you for not having an ipod.

If you mean in general, do you need to accept the mp3 player revolution? Yes, you need to just get over it. You are doomed. And once you surrender, you will realize how amazing it is.

thanks for the comments. i actually had an iriver for a day and took it back. had an issue with song names and artist ect synching. also, really wanted album artwork. i am probably sold on the ipod. the other issue is sound. i have read all these articles and blogs about mp3 vs. aac and bitrate ect. i have used others' ipods and i really can't tell the difference, but if i think about it, i get so anxious about not having the best sound, i can't enjoy the music. you know, i am just listening thinking, "is the bass too low now that i am listening to an mp3 vs. cd? anyone else deal with this?

  9. what do you think. i am thinking about it in order to put all my burned stuff on there and still keep cds of the the really good stuff. anybody really anti ipod? i just like the experience of listening to a cd and holding it ect. i wonder if they are doomed.

  10. I agree with the comments that say it makes much more sense to pirate for free then to pay to pirate. Its unclear whether or not its illegal for the site to operate in Russia, based on the loopholes, but I have read some fairly clear (quoted on wikipedia, so take with some salt) legislature from the US which makes this illegal.

On the flip side, there is no way for the RIAA to catch you since they aren't going to get your IP from allofmp3, so there is a little bit of added security from sueing. Furthermore, while in general it is not a good idea to deal with shady russian sites, allofmp3 is pretty well known for not stealing credit card info, and they do allow you to use temporary/pay as you go credit cards, so most prudent people i have heard about it go that route.

In conclusion, use OiNK, but buy music you really care about.

i think i am with y'all here. even though i have an ipod, i will still buy cds of bands i really like. ie buying the new dylan. allofmp3 does seem a bit touch and go. thanks again for the comments.
