  1. It seems like many things that conservatives are passionately for (Muslim Ban, voter suppression) have constantly been proven to be statistically unlikely.  Whereas things they are passionately against (climate change) have been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

It is clear the Republican party does not see reason or fact and are willing to push their agenda, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.  .

And I like to say this just as a reminder every once and awhile.  Let us never forget, the leader of the Republican Party, our President, is a Racist, Misogynist, Xenophobe, who has regularly pushed policies that are in direct contradiction to our constitution.

Not a day goes by that I don't wonder if I'm part of the deluded group. It's nuts out there. Comments like this really bring me back to reality. Thanks!

Very good point about the Right being against anything that is an actual threat. It's classic projection. Bring up racism and BAM, it's the Left and the Blacks who are racist.

  2. I work at a school that is 1/3 Hispanic and 1/3 Muslim. When I hear people say, 'well, life goes on' I become livid. It does not go on for these kids. They are completely on edge. As we did at the airport, I will stand right in front of these kids if someone comes to take them.

My own kids are seeing what's going on as a result of my wife and I talking about it in front of them all the time. They went to the women's march with us and the airport. They've seen the matrix. No going back.   :uhoh  Would you want to though?

I personally am sick to my stomach all the time. It's surreal!

  3. Below is a link to last night's Phil/CRB sets --- Neal Casal sang lead on some the American Beauty tunes, which kinda of surprised me. Realy liked his take on Sugar Magnolia.

Kinda wish the other guitarist wan't there - he was kinda of a one trick pony - guess he is Phil's tour manager.

    Neal is killing it here!!

  4. Doesn't bother me a bit. I think the EP is actually better than the new album, but neither of them is as good as the first two records. Still decent, though.

The newest songs sound good live, but the studio versions are kind of "meh" by comparison.

Aw, come on: I was only disappointed by the Wilco & Mudcrutch releases! :lol

The Dylan show is still great, but probably nothing will ever top the Bootleg Series '66 release. That thing is desert island Dylan.

I can't keep up with CRB. I'm still digesting the first two albums. Big Moon is classic. Magic Door has 3 great tunes and the rest seem like outtakes. In a recent vid interview about their gear, Chris said they are going into the studio in Jan to record a more acoustic-based album. Should be interesting.

  5. I always put Archive Ratdog (or Archive Dead  / Archive Lesh) in Google and their page comes up.

Find the year on the left of the page (hit more if you can't find the year)

Once your are in year section and on the far right of the Sort By bar there is 5 blue lines - hit that and click on the show details box. Hit the Date Publish tab and the shows will get in date order.

I still like the old look -but have gotten use to the new one.

Yes that helped! Thanks so much. I miss the old layout too. Websites are just becoming so busy and cluttered. You'd think archive would be more straight forward since it's entire purpose is for research. Music collections could be listed alphabetically then on the collection page, year links posted prominently. That should lead to shows by tour date with 'other copies' right below. It'd also be nice if 'aud/sbd' was listed right there as well.

    Thanks again!

  6. I need some help.  How do you navigate archive.org? I'm to get some Ratdog and can't for the life of me get the shows to show up in a list according to the tour date. It's all these random lists or icons. I'm so confused. Not sure why when you click the year you don't get a list of tour dates and the available copies below it.

    Thanks for any help :-)

  7. There's so much out there at this point. I kind of feel like giving up! Started several series over the last few months and can't finish one. Westworld, Stranger Things, Luke Cage, Tall Man in the Castle (or whatever the fuck it's called). Started OA last night. Ugh. It's like I'm on TV overload. I'm burned out on these mystery-laden sci fi shows, fantasy shows, dumb millennial comedies, insulting over 40 dramadies. Not sure what's worth watching these days. Maybe I'll go back to watch the Office. Never watched that.

Guilty pleasures though...The Flash, Walking Dead, Star Wars Rebels. Saw Rogue One. Very cool but not really fun. It's a classic tragedy with lots of unnecessary stuff thrown in.  CGI? I'm anticipating some SW burn out as has happened with Marvel movies.

To be honest, if I'm gonna watch anything it's usually an episode of Bob Ross with the kids. Love Love Love that dude!

Rant over.  Some good suggestions on here. Thanks!

  8. It looks like numbers 33, 34, and 35 are all Tweedy shows, just listed under Jeff Tweedy. The Buffalo recording (#035) is excellent, but I may be biased since I was at the show.

thanks! i got it figured out. i wish they were labeled appropriately rather than all 'wilco'.

  9. http://www.jambands.com/news/2016/12/01/dead-company-set-2017-tour-dates/

Dead Co dates.  I might go this time.  I've kind of warmed up to them a bit.  They have a very mellow sound.  Less dense than Furthur, which I like.  Mayer definitely sounds great on guitar.  Singing is tough to take.  Also, is it possible he plays too many notes?! :-)  Oteil and John are definitely making this band rehears. Wish Oteil was louder in the mix though.  He was starting to open up last tour.

So, I've been thinking about who will carry the mantel as the boys move on (in one way or another).  Jeff is in and Oteil and Mayer seem to really have the vibe.  Drummer would def be Russo.  Do they need a Bob?  Just some dumb speculation.

  10. In the Post Trump victory world we live in we have to change our thinking.  I think both sides live in a bubble and echo chamber.  What the left heard about Trump and its supporters was the xenophobic rhetoric etc.  I am not sure that was fully the case.  From the analysis of the exit polls it is was more the economy then immigration or terrorism (although those did help).  The idiot racists make for good Daily Show segments and good postings on Facebook, but not everyone is that way.  But what happened when the left made that the singular focus they lost site of the struggles of these Americans.  This was the biggest mistake of the campaign. The democrats didn't realize how much they needed the white working class vote.  Their needs were not and are not being met.

Right now, we have to move off of the focus on his rhetoric.  Everyone knows what Trump has said and what he has done.  I am not excusing it by any means.  In the next months he has to answer for what he has said and what he will do to make this country work for all Americans.  But IMHO it is not the racist rhetoric that got him elected.  He was elected in spite of it.  The left needs to understand the why they voted for him.  This needs to be addressed with in the party.  I am not giving Trump a clean slate.  But I am giving him the benefit of doubt.  I don't like that he will be president.  But to continually badger his rhetoric of the campaign will do no good.

There are lots of people that really have no choice in ignoring his rhetoric.  Saying we need to move on is like dismissing his sexism as 'locker room talk'. I'm usually quite cynical about American politics. I have that privilege. I can walk down the street and no one would know I'm a Marxist. However, when a president sends men and women to war based on lies or when a president blatantly scapegoats whole cultures...I have to pay attention and do something and absolutely not let it go.  Where is the line if this is just dismissed as rhetoric? Will the next candidate finally be held accountable if a video of him raping a woman shows up? I guess that could even be spun.

    @KevinG-

Thanks for indulging my rants.  Not trying to dis you or argue.  You're points are valid and I'm just using them as part of my attempts at dealing with all of this. It still stands that these folks that voted for Trump have been 'fucked' for generations by a system that has fucked mostly everyone else too. When I think about it, I'm in solidarity with these people. They've suffered more than I probably will in this life and my concern is everyone. The sad thing is that their anger and fear was manipulated by the continuous stream of propaganda we endure everyday. It's just so sad that we can't work collectively to at least end this economic slavery we all are in. I guess we'll see.

  11. The 10/27/90 Paris show from the 30 Trips Box is pretty sublime. First set is pretty standard but solid. China Cat to open set two makes you wonder why that song tanked so hard in later years, but the Rider gets the blood pumping. Really solid version of Saint of Circumstance, and listening to it with headphones on there is a weird drone going on in the background, not sure if it's keyboards, Phil, or Mickey. Beautiful playing from there out, particularly a real purty Stella Blue. Thumbs up!

I've enjoyed that one too.  Love Saint.  I'm not too familiar with that tour.  There's gotta be some more highlights.

  12. I think it essentially boils down to this.  Looking at the breakdown of the vote it was largely rural areas that voted Trump.  In these areas the population of minorities, especially Muslims and LGBTQ, are relatively small or nonexistent.  This lack of first hand contact and experience with these groups does not really allow the sort of empathy required to understand the consequences of Trump's words.  If all you hear on the news and your Facebook feed is that Muslims are terrorist it is easy to quietly go along thinking all Muslims are bad and vote for Trump.  This compounded by the recovery of the last half decade or so that saw poor middle class whites left behind made it even easier to vote for Trump.

Trump did something very well, he tied Clinton to Obama.  Essentially saying that Clinton would be an Obama third term.  Look at the last eight years, it got better for these minority groups (talking in general BTW, a true debate on this could be had).  Poor non college educated people felt left behind.  It is important to make the distinction that they felt left behind and who was the cause of this (congress, president, big business, etc.)  Just like in Football it is a lot easier to fire a head coach then it is to fire a the whole team.  These working class whites did not want an Obama third term.  They felt if Clinton was elected they would further and further marginalized.  He also was purposely vague on what he would do and the specifics when presented were met with indifference, by the media and his supporters.  People just did not want another third term.

I do agree with you, the people who voted for Trump have been hoodwinked.  His presented policies will likely hurt these very people that supported him.  But in this election the history of the last eight years, showed their way of life declining, they simply could not afford another term of this.

Nice interpretation. (not being sarcastic) I hate to say it, but you may be giving 'them' more credit than they deserve. I didn't hear much from Trump supporters concerning economic matters.  It was more xenophobia, fear of terrorism and 'someone to shake things up'. Of course, standard of living is going to hell for the majority of Americans...even those with degrees.  We are the ones that end up paying for everything the government does.  Not the elite rich and not the ones who have no money. So Obama and Clinton were no better. Government has the roll of funneling money from worker to capitalist in our country.  We are squeezed and squeezed.  Obviously systemic change is desperately needed. But I never expected a majority of people in this country to go so far right (?) with their anger. Again, they were hoodwinked by lies, rhetoric, emotional manipulation and, as you said, lack of any contact with diversity in our country. Imagine if these folks were non violent revolutionaries! They have EVERYTHING in common with Black Lives, immigrants, poor veterans, uninsured etc. Yet they see 'them' as their enemy.

  13. There are explanations for Trumps behavior, but they are not excuses.  The fact that this man got away with locker room talk, saying 'Mexicans' are rapers and should be sent home, 'Blacks' live in squalid cities and essentially all Muslims are terrorists AND was elected president is astounding to me.  Nothing has surprised me more in my 43 years. I know children who are scared shitless or being deported or their parents 'disappeared' (yes, kids actually know about that). I know many Muslim women who are actually thinking about not wearing their head scarf, which is an absolute assault on their freedom of religion, among other things. It's profound.

I'm hearing so much dismissive talk about how he will not really follow through with his rhetoric. Even if he doesn't he still said it...publicly! His voters saw all of this behavior, behavior which they would never tolerate from their children or spouses, and still voted for him. I'm still having trouble understanding what these people want.  I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I also want to scream in their face. Yet again, leftists are the ones who must be empathic of the stupidity of the right. Lost Highway above makes sense when he says these people want to just be left alone and not forced to be politically correct. They also say they want an non politician in the white house.  But the president is a politician??  They are also scarred of terrorism, even though there statistically is no threat.  They're also scared of Mexicans because they took their jobs.  They didn't really nor did the manufacturing sector leave.  All these are just ignorant reasons...lack of education or being able to hear fact.  So what else is it?  Is it really hate of other, white power, fascism?  Like I said, I want to give these people the benefit of the doubt, but is that an appropriate response to this group of people? These folks were also given a steady diet of absolute BS about Clinton and Obama for the last 8 years via talk radio and Fox. I wonder if these entertainment shows are rethinking their business plan since they actually got what they wanted? Everything they've said needed to happen has...but that was just entertainment, not news.

Finally, I am absolutely baffled by the irony that these poor white folks are precisely the people the left cares about and wants the end their economic oppression.  Yet they've been hoodwinked into dismissing us and hate speech against the left AND they vote for candidates who perpetuate the system that actually is the cause of their misery!!  WTF!

  14. http://www.phishjustjams.com/

pretty cool site that just has the jams from most shows that are available.  i think it's all aud recordings.  i've been skipping to the jams lately, so this just does it for you.  trying to go through 2.0.  some good stuff there.  also, tom marshall is starting a new podcast called under the scales.  i think it comes out tomorrow.  might be cool to hear his perspective on things.

  15. Rock Solid-music topics (songs from '74 etc.) with hilarious discussions from the UBC type LA comedians.

Decibel Geek-discussions/interviews about all types of metal.  I'm not a huge fan, but I love how they break down songs and interview artists about their writing process.  Most recent episode had Skid Row!

Counterspin-critical look at recent media stories.

  16. I think very song on Highway Companion could be a single.  So great!  Petty is one of the only artists that's managed to put out quality music over his entire career.  Each album has at least a few excellent tunes while the rest are more than listenable. Hell, the last Mudcrutch album was great.  I think about him compared to Neil Young and his decades of shit music and Petty deserves to be in the top three.

  17. Yeah, the bass player is definitely a straight ahead bass player - but it suited the music fine, last night. Also he was ok in the mix, last night.

Good to hear.  Last time a I saw them was outside, so sound wasn't the best.  I'm seeing them in Nov.  I'm getting spoiled as they come around 2 times a year.  I've seen them so many times.  Better each time.  Saw Betty at show last fall.  There is supposed to be an official release of some Betty Blends again, but not heard any more about it.

Regarding Casal, he is just one cool dude.  Great stage presence and not flashy.  Just stands up there and plays, like my favorite bands :-).  Don't think I've heard him play a B-Bender.  Can't wait!  He's in 3 of my current favorite bands...Circles Around the Sun, CRB and Hardworking Americans.  Crazy!
