For a goodly number of reasons the eighties was a shitty decade for music. Here's another reason. Sad, really, as some of my favourite musicians are in this clip.

The ones I've listened to are just straight-down-the-line pedestrian covers. There's nothing daring. The best thing about it are the song choices themselves - Unfaithful Servant, Whispering Pines, Bessie Smith. If you've never heard The Band I would suggest skipping this and buying their first two albums today.

He sits in your room, his tomb, with a fist full of tacks
Preoccupied with his vengeance
Cursing the dead that can't answer him back
I'm sure that he has no intentions
Of looking your way, unless it's to say
That he needs you to test his inventions.
Can you please crawl out your window?
Use your arms and legs it won't ruin you
How can you say he will haunt you?
You can go back to him any time you want to.
He looks so truthful, is this how he feels
Trying to peel the moon and expose it
With his businesslike anger and his bloodhounds that kneel
If he needs a third eye he just grows it
He just needs you to talk or to hand him his chalk
Or pick it up after he throws it.
Can you please crawl out your window?
Use your arms and legs it won't ruin you
How can you say he will haunt you?
You can go back to him any time you want to.
Why does he look so righteous while your face is so changed
Are you frightened of the box you keep him in
While his genocide fools and his friends rearrange
Their religion of the little ten women
That backs up their views but your face is so bruised
Come on out the dark is beginning.
Can you please crawl out your window?
Use your arms and legs it won't ruin you
How can you say he will haunt you?
You can go back to him any time you want to.

I'm going down to Puerto Rico
I'm going down on the midnight plane
I'm going down on the Vomit Express
I'm going down with my suitcase pain.

This is great news!
Last time he was out he played in Sydney on the same night as Jolie Holland. Difficult choice!

We were headed home for Austin caught pneumonia on the road
Taking it home to Connie and the kids
A wheel ran off and jumped a railroad then ran through a grocery store
If you want to buy a bus I'm taking bids
And the devil shivered in his sleeping bag
He said traveling on the road is such a drag
If we can make it home by Friday we can brag
And the devil shivered in his sleeping bag.
Well I just got back from New York City Kris and Rita done it all
Raw perfection there for all the world to see
Lord I heard an angel singing in the Philharmonic Hall
Rita Coolidge Rita Coolidge cleft for me
And the devil shivered...
And the devil shivered in his sleeping bag.

Seek and ye shall find. I never knew this!
In 1903, after federation, the slouch hat became the standard headdress in the reorganized Australian army and the hat appeared with the left side clipped up to enable the rifle to be carried at the slope without fouling the hat brim. -
If there is a better collection of songs that never made it to any official release I'm yet to find it.

Found on The Royal Stable - the website for any and all Bonnie Prince Billy information.
Tompkins Square Records reports that Country Music Hall Of Famer Charlie Louvin is finishing his album with producer Mark Nevers in Nashville. The album features guests like Will Oldham, Jeff Tweedy, Tom T. Hall and Elvis Costelloto name a few (thanks Roman) (29/09). -
Ohh yes. Good news!

Sincere condolences and prayers.
And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
