  1.

That brings up a question--what do you all recommend? Kindle, nook, or ipad apps? As much as I'd LOVE to have an ipad, I'd rather not spend that much money right now, but I'm open to suggestions about all of these options.

I have a Kindle and I like it a lot. I don't love it because there are certain things about it that I think could be improved - page formatting being the biggest letdown in my opinion. I wish I would have waited a few months and bought the Fire as opposed to the Kindle. But I do like the fact that it is easy to read in direct sunlight, which I think could possibly be a drawback of the iPad (and yes, the iPad and Android tablets do have Kindle apps). I'm not very familiar with the Nook, but from what I can tell, it may have similar features to the Fire.

The other problem with any e-reader is that the ability to share a book you really like with a friend is somewhat limited. And that is half the fun of reading a real good book.

  2. Man, I love Neil. But this new album is just not doing it for me.

I like it. It has everything I want from Neil and the Horse - it's loud, loose, and rough. Jesus's Chariot is my favorite. Sure, it's not the very best thing that Neil and the Horse have ever done, but it still makes me want to turn the volume knob up to 11.

  3. Just finished Peter Bergen's Manhunt. Amazing access that guy gets, and it makes the account of the analysis of all the intelligence (or lack thereof) leading up to the decision to actually raid the compound in Abbatabod all the more courageous. It certainly puts Romney's flippant comment that everyone, even Jimmy Carter, would have ordered the raid in some context (Biden and Gates both thought the intelligence that OBL actually was at the compound was not good enough to justify the risk of carrying out the raid). And speaking of courageous, those SEALS and the QRT members who came on to the scene after the first helicopter had its "hard" landing are the epitome of courageous.

  4. I've heard that Lou's claims about classical music bits in MMM were just part of a ruse that he was playing, trying to get critics and whatnot to claim that they heard the classical elements in all the noise and feedback when in fact there was nothing of the sort. Who knows, but I wouldn't put it past Lou to pull something like that.

  5. So one of the great things about Spotify is that I am getting to listen to all those albums I've heard about but am to thrifty (ok, so I'm cheap) to buy. So last night I decided I was going to try to get through Metal Machine Music, one of the most loathed albums of all time. I made it to the 8 minute mark (about halfway) of Part I. So the question goes out to the masses - How far can you get through MMM before you have to call it quits or your ears bleed?

  6. This new album could be absolutely mind-blowing or a complete waste of everyone's time. There will be no middle ground. I can see Neil and the Horse completely redefining these classic songs in such a tremendous fashion, but that blurb about the children's chorus has me worried as well. Keeping my fingers crossed for something amazing.

  7. I am an attorney, and the best advice that I can give you is to find an attorney that regularly practices in the areas of intellectual property/copyright/entertainment law and have them review the release. You wouldn't want someone like me, who specializes in probate/estate planning to look this over and give you an opinion.

  8. When I was in law school in the mid-90's, there was an alt-country show once a week (Wed. evenings if I recall correctly) called Progressive Torch and Twang on the MSU student run radio station. The DJ had the sexiest voice and played the coolest songs . . . Rev. Horton Heat; The Knitters, Johnny Cash, The Jayhawks, etc. Just about every week she'd play Box Full of Letters and Windfall. These were my absolute two favorite songs at the time and I eventually went out and bought A.M. and Trace. Well the Son Volt bug didn't quite take, the Wilco virus set in and replicated with BT, was almost cured by ST, and came back with a vengeance with YHF and aGIB. I've always wondered what happened to that DJ with the sexy voice . . . I'd like to buy her a beer for turning me on to my favorite band.

  9. A good, professional show, as expected. I am not a fan of opening the show with One Sunday Morning. It totally sucked all the excitement and energy out of the house from my perspective. Highlights of the evening included the A.M. gems (I Must Be High AND Passenger Side); watching Nels and Mikel going absolutely bat-shit crazy on Shot In The Arm from the balcony; and the energetic (but too short) encore closing trifecta of Candyfloss/Standing O/Wheel; and has been previously mentioned closing with Cruel to Be Kind. And to who ever spilled their beer all over my jacket, thanks a lot. At least you weren't as annoying as the interpretive dancer in the loge balcony who was the only person who stood up and blocked my view for much of the show.

  10. I know for a fact that they did sell FastLane tickets for the Detroit show. They probably took the option off the ticketing page once they sold out of them. Who knows how it'll work, but I guess we'll find out soon...

Q.F.T. I saw the option, but passed.
