  1. I´m waiting for your congratulations, ladies and gentlemen.

Even if your soccer knowledge are far away from the real world, please say thank you to the Spain team, fighting against the worst way to play:the Netherland-kung fu team and their English best supporter (dressed in black).

    Good football won,Mourinho lost again

If I was a Netherland supporter last night (and I was for years) I felt embarrased:where is the spirit of Cruyff and Neskens, where is the wonderful team of Van Basten and Gullit?

And the answer is :they´re all trying to play football last night, but in the Spanish team.

The Dutch did what they had to do in order to have a chance to win the championship. If Robben chips that first breakaway over Cassilas, they win most likely. Spain was toying with them for the first 15 minutes or so, until the Dutch got physical. Well I would have loved to see a free-flowing game like Germany-Uruguay gave us Saturday, I also knew going into Sunday's game that it would be completely different because the stakes were monumentally more important to both sides.

And congratulations to all are VC friends in Spain in winning the WC. :cheers

  2. Wilco are extremely fortunate to be in the situation they are. I just read a rather depressing interview with Ted Leo where he says that in the future he wont be able to tour anywhere near as much as he has as he can't economically sustain it anymore. He's on his third different label on succesive releases as the two before both folded. He furthermore said that he was going to have to get a day job in the near future and that music would be a lesser part of his life.

That sucks. Maybe Wilco will sign Ted to their label and that would be the first step to my dream bill of Ted Leo and the Pharmacests opening for Wilco!

  3. Yesterday (the 3rd) included a small town parade yesterday including our congressman and 3 GOP canidates for the State Senate (gee, must be an election year), chicken barbeque in the town square, tubing, water-skiing, and generally too much sun all afternoon and then a quick boat ride to the ice cream shop around sunset. Today, pretty much the same thing but replace the small town parade with an antique wooden boat parade around the lake and possibly the last firework display over the lake thanks to the township's concerns over rising insurance premiums.

  4. I was so disappointed that Ghana did not make it through. Their striker (Aneyu?) has been one of the most exciting players to watch in this Cup. I can only imagine how he must have thought after drilling that first PK in the shoot-out. He will probably be thinking why couldn't he do that just a few minutes earlier. As for the Uruguayians, Furlan is a hell of player and that final PK took some stone cold balls to attempt. But the Dutch are going to kill 'em. HUP HOLLAND HUP!

  5. While at the endodontist getting a root canal, the assistant gave me some headphones and explained Pandora for me. She asked me what genre or artist I would like to listen to so I picked Wilco. Nothing like having the pulp from one of your molars taken out while listening to "The Lonely 1"

  6. For France, it's alternate years of all or nothing:

    1998: Won the cup

2002: Scored ZERO goals in group stage

2006: Finalist - lost on penalty kicks

2010: ZERO goals scored so far in group stage...

I bet the Irish would have put up a better showing! I hope the South African's kick the French's butts and keep them scoreless.

  7. Has FIFA ever explained why North Korea is not banned from competition. IIRC, South Africa was banned from competition during portions of the aparthied era. North Korea's trampling of human rights is just as bad (if not worse).

  8. Was it a Mexican player? If so, he was probably in an offside position.

No, it was a SA defender on the opposite post. The GK went out from the goal line to play the ball, missed it, it landed near the Mexican who drilled it into an open net.

I don't recall if it was a corner or a free kick, but it was off of a set play.

  9. Can someone explain to this neophyte why the first Mexican goal was disallowed? There was a player (not the GK)on the goal line when the ball was played.

That SA goal was about as beautiful as the SA defense was horrible on the Mexican goal.

  10. Don't mean to be rude but what the hell happened to the Star Spangled Banner? :dontgetit

It's Philly and the Flyers always won when Kate Smith sang God Bless America. Too bad they ruined it by having that hot blonde do the Natalie/Nat King Cole style duet. This Red Wings' fan says Go Hawks!

  11. Drivin up from Ky for the show and some tent camping. Found quite a few campgrounds close by. Anybody familiar with the area or have any recommendations.

How much time do you plan on spending in the area? If you have a few days, I'd suggest hitting one of the state parks on Lake Michigan. Not sure about what is available in Indiana, but just a little bit north in Michigan you have Warren Dunes S.P. near St. Joe and Van Buren S.P. near South Haven. Both are within 90 minutes of South Bend.
