Come! My friend even has an extra ticket.
-
Hope you have a great day involving lots of cakes, gigs and old 90's britpop bands
Don't forget old '80s MTV bands--gonna see *gulp* Scritti Politti tonight. No, really.
Thanks, everyone!
-
Did I see Beyonce on that setlist?
You are correct.
-
I saw the subject line and thought, "When did Mary join VC?"
Happy birthday, fellow Scorpios--except for Jeff/Walrus of course.
-
Still waiting for the copy I ordered from Musictoday (unless you live in Canada).
I hear your cameos are intact.
-
Pandas! Cupcakes! Genius musicians who've been known to play in Los Angeles! What more could a girl want?
Thanks everyone. You're the best Internet and real-life friends ever. Mwah mwah.
-
At least I managed to refrain from commenting on Mansun or (ugh) Menswear.
-
I wouldn't recommend them for everyone, but I have a huge soft spot for Gene, and I always turn it up when they come up on Shuffle. If you can't find some of their earlier stuff, let me know--chances are I have it and can do a YSI. To See the Lights is probably my favorite, but Revelations was woefully ignored by just about everyone when, in fact, it had some rocking tunes amid the sensitive wordplay. Heh.

We have plenty of room here, and I'm only a few miles from the Fillmore.
-
Awww, Arcata but nothing further south? I'll keep hoping....
-
Glenn really needs to stop punching himself in the face--though he has very nice, dry teeth.
-
It was a mixed bunch - Islington arts centre luvvies, Camden leisure pirates, a good proportion of students, and people like me who had treasured his greatness since the very first UK TOTP appearance.
Is Islington still too cool for its own good? I'd have thought the Blair halo would've given way by now.
P.S. I am not gay for Jonathan Richman, honest. OK, maybe a bit. But no tongue.HotT.
-
Whoa, what would your Britpop loving friends think of you now???
Who says they have to know!?
-
Paul, it was twangy--and I liked it!
-
I hope his vocal chords have recovered a bit in the last couple of weeks. If not, Andrew, please report back on any miming JoJo may attempt.

... a.k.a. WWWRBTL.org (since they couldn't get .com, according to Jon and David), and Benmont Tench was in there too
Sheesh, my head spins just thinking about it, but a few tidbits that will hopefully translate to the reading audience:
* David Rawlings = a puckish genius
* One of my favorite '80s-era duets (and I freaking love '80s-era duets) played out in front of me, with Benmont Tench on the piano
* Any note from Benmont Tench or Greg Leisz in general
* If "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" had been staged as a relay race, both Sean and David did the equivalent of dropping the baton when they couldn't remember the lyrics correctly, but fortunately, Jon and Gillian served as solid anchors for the team
* Gillian playing drums
* "Hots damn, I love me that song." -- Jon Brion, on "Look at Miss Ohio"
--You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go [sean]
--Early Mornin' Rain [sara]
--I Hear Them All [David]
--One More Dollar [Gillian]
--Different Drum [sara]
--Look at Miss Ohio [Gillian]
--Any Old Time [sara]
--Moonshiner [sean]
--Wicked Messenger [David and Gillian]
--Throw Me a Rope [Gillian and David]
--Positively 4th Street [Jon]
--Write Myself a Letter [sean]
--Country Girl [David]
--Don't Worry Baby [David Garza]
--Keys to the Kingdom [Gillian]
--Short People [sara]
--Tennessee Waltz [sara]
--Bury Me Beneath the Willow [sean]
--Girls Just Wanna Have Fun [David]
--Time After Time [David]
--All Through the Night [Jon]
--White Rabbit [Gillian]
--My Morphine [Gillian]
--Stop Dragging My Heart Around [Gillian and David]
--Luminous Rose [David]
--Don't Think Twice It's Alright [sean, David, Jon, and Gillian]
--Queen Jane Approximately [David]
--My Baby Left Me [Jon]
--Baby You're a Rich Man [David]
A couple of other VCers were in attendance. They'd better speak up!

we didn't really get to hear Tweedy sing it at the basement show (not without some heinous "backing" vocals)
It sounded pretty freaking good from where I was sitting that night.
-
re: the los angeles show:
i hope william h. macy shows up to sing along on "blue christmas."
maybe...joe henry will show up and cook a chicken dinner for us all!
My friend is hoping for Patton Oswalt in an elf costume.
-
Jeff, I can't believe that so much time has passed and that I stil haven't met you in person. But your work speaks for itself, and in that regard, I feel closer to you and many other denizens of this board than I do to "real life" friends. You should be proud of yourself.
See you on the Project Runway boards!

They only bought us in June. Maybe I'll get a chance for a quick word with him during his next visit when I'm dishing out the tea and executive afternoon macaroons from the trolley.
I sense a Jeeves and Wooster revival percolating:
-
From mine too, but I still managed to miss it!
Ahh well, you had a very good excuse. Hope your mom hit the jackpot!
EDIT Shock horror! He's chairman of the company that owns most of the one I work for!
Maybe it's time for you to take a business trip out here (though I did think to myself when he took the stage, "Who's that guy who looks like a cleaned-up Harry Dean Stanton?")
-
Holy crap, I love this. But why do I suspect Tualla will be less than enamored of it ... ? I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
-
Elvis also showed up for a couple of songs at the T-Bone Burnett show Friday night.
I managed to get one decent shot on Friday:
And this is what San Francisco looks like when the sun comes out:
