  1. I think at this point I don't want to hear or read anymore arguments for or against "dad rock". I kind of just want to ignore those words and see if they'll go away.

At this point "dad rock" is the new "rose from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo."

  2. I was thinking about it... these guys really made a "fucked up country record". This morning I was showering, my wife has Pandora set up in the bathroom so I sometimes listen to the Wilco "station". Someone Else's Song came on and it struck me both how classic and conventional it sounds. They really used to be an Americana band, as in mastering conventions in order to employ them for making new songs (never mind the somewhat meta lyrics). Schmilco would not have been possible in those days. Now they've mastered conventions and often transcend them.

Exactly. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I never understood why people considered Being There as weird. It's fairly straightforward.

  3. They've done so much great work on straight-ahead (or slightly skewed) rock music, that I'm really happy they did something weirder, country-er, and quieter (while also being disquieting, off-kilter, etc.)

Also a strong set of lyrics.

It won't end up being my favorite album, but the adventurousness is welcome. For all the talk about BT being a weird country record, I've never really bought it. THIS one is the weird country record. Really enjoying it.

  4. "Simple economics" is one way to think about ticketing, but do bands need to operate in service of just the bottom line? Wilco isn't Wal-Mart. I have no problem with Wilco making money playing shows, but rock music really isn't about the money; let's hope they remember that as time goes on.

  5. the version on AGIB isn't that great to be honest. the levels are weird and it just feels lifeless. the Kicking Television version is the complete opposite - perfect levels and a real pulse

i respectfully disagree. the studio recordings of hell is chrome and muzzle of bees are probably my two favorite. i love how they sound.

  6. I am using the mic on the computer. It gets the job done for what I am looking to do. As far as tabs, it was a mix of tabs on VC and just figuring it out by ear. Today Company in my Back went up... only a few more left!
