  1. I don't think I have it anymore, so I can't take a picture of it, but Wilco made a THIRD appearance in the Jumble just a few weeks ago. It was another school scene with a kid in the background wearing a t-shirt that said Wilco on it. I thought to myself how cool is that.

    Wilco will teach you baby.

  2. I am not smart enough to figure this out on my own - can someone tell me which part Mikael is playing and which part Pat is playing? I can't tell from watching the Letterman clip. Thanks fellow VCers.

  3. I apologize if this has been discussed previously (I didnt find anything in a search) but in reviewing my copy of Wilco's Winter Residency, I do not have a performance of Not for the Season (Laminated Cat). Do I have an incomplete copy or was it not played because it was never officially released?

  4. I noticed in the Letterman performance that Jeff and Feist glance at each other before the "misconstrued" line as if to say "okay, are we going to be in sync this time." From what I gather, Feist recorded her parts after Jeff and the band did the basic tracking for the song, so she was working off Jeff's existing vocal tracks. The out of sync "misconstrued" seems like a Feist embellishment; an improvised moment that stuck. I don't get the impression that this was some premeditated "when you get to this line, sing it differently than me" kind of thing.

I noticed that glance, too. It would be great to hear from someone "in the know" as to how the vocal tracks were recorded. My guess is that Feist sang it a number of ways and the band settled on the one that appears on the album.

Props a) to Jeff for his artistic mastery in using a word like 'miscontrued' which totally fits this song; and 2) to Feist for her amazingly beautiful vocal performance. It's easily tied for first as my favorite song on the album right now.

  5. I haven't been around for awhile so I am having trouble finding some good search results for my questions. I bought the DVD and would like access to the complete live show that I was reading about. Can someone point me to how I can do that? Thanks so much!!!

  6. Interesting stuff. I've seen them live 4 times on 3 different tours, including their last one (at the Greek in Berkeley in Nov 2004).

I pretty much listen to their first 5 albums and then scattered stuff after. REM will always be my #1 band, so I am not objective at all. But their recent stuff has been boring which is the worst sin a band can commit in my mind. Personally, I think Michael Stipe's ego destroyed this band. Maybe they can regain some of that rocker mentality - looking forward to the tour.

  7. Chipotle: pronounced chip-a-toll-ay

Does JC Penney still exist? CRAZY!!

I'm afraid all the VW commercials have crowded out any memories I have of hearing Wilco out and about.

I guess I do remember hearing them at a random bar's jukebox a few months ago: tracks from Summerteeth. I

immediately raced to the jukebox and waited an hour for the music to turn up.

  8. I would lengthen the Jesus, etc. quote a little:

Our love is all of God's money

    Everyone is a burning sun

The Hummingbird quote is pretty apropos too I have to admit.

    Or one last idea:

This is what love is for, to be out of place

gorgeous and alone, face to face

  9. C'mon people! It must be smacking you in the face it's so obvious. :-)

a live Wilco performance of Don't Fear the Reaper!

    Valentine is done

    Here but now they're gone

    Romeo and Juliet

    Are together in eternity

  10. I don't know, the whole song's lyrics sound a little like... drunken to me. Like how he's got problems and he doesnt even know why he does stuff--"what was I thinking when I said hello/goodnight?" A lyric like "I am watching the world" wouldn't really fit in the context, plus it does actually say drinker.... Drinks like a fish. I don't know. I love the song either way--"Take off your bandaid cuz I don't believe in touchdowns" is one of my favorite lyrics too. "You're quite a quiet domino" might be my favorite Tweedy-ism of all time though.

I still don't see how American aquarium drinker becomes drinking like a fish, but hey that's the fun with abstract lyrics. I guess in my mind I see a guy with a menacing look walking down the street pondering the state of his relationship. If someone wanted to "hide out in the big city" one way to do that would be to immerse onself in the foot traffic of a major street.

The bandaid/touchdowns line doesn't work for me - though I did appreciate someone's analysis of the words.

"Quite a quiet domino" - man, I love stuff like that. Even though I haven't clue what he means, it sounds awesome.

Similar (to me anyway) like "Impossible Germany, Unlikely Japan".
