  1. It means you've got naked with a member of the opposite sex ::Shakes bible::

Btw...I waited on it...and yup...still attracted to her.

Give it time. :-) It took me a few months but I pretty much shudder whenever I see her on my TV screen. Did you know her new foundation is called the Yum-O Organization?

And for those of you still waiting, here is the link. I haven't checked it out to see if it is still active.

  2. Jeff has been out front on this issue for years. With the rise of the internet, the computer has become the access point for music distribution, not the record store. The more that bands take control of this access point, the more power they will have. The fact that Wilco uses their website so much proves that they believe this. While there will always be the indie record store and the Best Buy, they are increasingly becoming relics of a bygone time.

  3. Replying to Glenn Kotche is inhuman. LOL

Can someone more proficient than me post a picture comparison of Glenn with Mark Cuban? It's been bothering

me for awhile since Mark is such a jerk and Glenn is such a god of the drumkit.

  4. When a band/artist gets a song placement in a movie, tv, commercial (VW for example), etc., I think it is refered to as a "Sync" in music publishing terms..again, could be wrong as what do I know anyway. I've heard the term bumper used in other contexts as well.

See if that guy can put me back in touch with the lovely woman in the LA office who attends the AIMP luncheons..Thanks..you're a Doll :D

I was pretty happy when I heard this song before the game. Where is all the acrimony from the VW-haters, though? I would think anything from Wilco having to do with Fox would be lambasted much more than a vw commercial.

  5. I think I saw the commercial on Sunday and have been dying to get on the board to see the reaction - I am not surprised in the least by the reaction.

    Here's my take:

You can bitch about this all you want and you have the choice not to listen to Wilco anymore. You don't ever have to buy another record, a ticket to their show, or a t-shirt. Thank God we live in a country where we have the freedom to make

    those kinds of choices.

As a fan of the band, I would love to know the thought process behind the decision to let VW use the song in the commercial. But merely as a curiosity. It's their music and they can do whatever they want with it as far as I am concerned. These guys have families and bills to pay just like the rest of us, and I'm sure they have some pretty big expenses when it comes to touring. As someone pointed out earlier, Wilco has given the fans so much! Name another band that puts their album on their website (for free) and offers regular concerts online (for free) let alone tours with their regularity and frequency.

When I first heard the commercial (on HGTV or the Food Network) I was a little surprised sure. But you know what, I also had a big-ass smile on my face, because I can never get enough Wilco. And the fact they included some of the vocal in the commercial made me smile even more. Moreso than when I had heard "Shake it Off" on Fox Sports the day earlier.

    God Bless Wilco.

  6. I just want to state how incredibly attracted I am to Rachel Ray. That's all.

You'll get over it. It's just a phase, trust me. At some point, all the things that you

once found attractive in her will become annoying and grating, like nails on a

    chalkboard.

    Just give it time.

  7. I was thumbing through my better half's copy of Rachael Ray's magazine and she put together her own song list for a road trip that also included "Passenger Side." I don't have it in front of me, but I think it had a link where you could download the list and/or the songs. I'll try and post it.

  8. http://news.spinner.com/2007/05/22/wilco-f...rom-the-eagles/

"Those are fighting words," Tweedy told Spinner during their Sessions taping in New York last week. "Even though it's stated in a positive manner, it seems so wildly off the mark. Did they actually listen to the record?"

"Did they listen to the Eagles?" Stirratt added.

"At the same time, it is absolutely a truthful statement," Tweedy conceded cheekily. "It's definitely a record that the Eagles didn't put out. So is 'London Calling.'"

Very interesting. I hadn't said anything to her about any reviews or comparisons, so I thought it was interesting she made the Eagles comparison since that it is the one that seems to be rankling the most muffins around here (including now Jeff and John's apparently).

I think it started with her saying Jeff's voice sounded like Don Henley's...(and yes, she has listened to the Eagles.)

  9. This will make Via Chicago a much more interesting place, as newbies flood the boards with such scintillating topics as "Has Anybody Here Ever Seen Wilco Live?" and "What Other Wilco Albums Are Good?"

Well, you can either welcome them with open arms in the spirit of Wilco or you can be an a*hole. It's your call. Or you

can start your own message board for the "real" fans.

  10. I also hear Yes, the Beatles, Blind Faith, and REM.

I was playing it for my fiancee (who knows Wilco through YHF) over the weekend and she said she thought

it sounded like Don Henley and the Eagles.

  11. Having listened to 7 songs from SBS at lunch today, including What Light, I have to say that I'm even more

depressed/disappointed now about their performance than ever before. Put "Walken" on through some headphones and think about how that would have sounded live in front of that audience. I'm sure I'll be over it soon, but 'tis a shame. Now I gotta wait until fall for another live performance. It would have been nice to see them on Saturday Night Live before their season wrapped up.

  12. i'm glad somebody else thought it was wanking off. i had to check the lyric booklet.

Maybe its a UK/America difference, but I heard whacking off the first few times myself. LOL

  13. I think alot of people felt that AGIB benefited moreso than normal from being performed live. Personally, I think

AGIB is a fine album and stands on its own.

I rather enjoyed the Porsche at 25 mph analogy, though I doubt the softer tone of SBS had anything to do with "perceived problems or difficulties" this reviewer is theorizing the band experienced getting together for songwriting the first time.

  14. hmm.

    "Sky Blue Sky," Wilco

Flowing, gently melodic songs like "Either Way," "Impossible Germany" and "What Light" make this the first Wilco album you might want to play at a picnic.

But if music that soars and swoops with the grace of a bird in flight, comes accompanied by humble, folky melodies and is completely and utterly delightful to listen to can be considered a step in the wrong direction, well, here's hoping Wilco stays lost.

    Favorite track: "Impossible Germany

    "salon.com

Nice to see some more IG kudos. Although picnic music isn't exactly a compliment, I think this reviewer captures the "debate" about this album pretty well: some Wilco fans weren't in the mood for a 'delightful' listen.

  15. If the band's performance may have seemed a little uninspired, one must also consider that they are the very last element of the show and get to play one song. I know that's what they expect going into the appearance, but all the same, it doesn't necessarily conjure up much motivation. I thought the performance was satisfactory but nothing special. Oh well.

I am unconvinced. They're uninspired on the day their first CD of new material as a lineup is released? On a national

TV stage in New York City about to go on tour? I fault the song selection. As someone perceptibly noted, I should be happy since this will not increase their popularity and lead to any arena/amphitheatre based tours anytime soon.

Other performers have been on Letterman and blown the audience away. I guess I'm surprised Wilco took a safe, conservative approach instead of being willing to challenge the audience a little. For example, had they played "Impossible Germany" and showcased their guitar playing, I would have been shocked had the audience (and Dave) not been thrilled.

  16. You know, if this was the song Jeff (and the band) wanted to play, then I would say, yeah, I'm disappointed and respectfully disagree, but when I have my own band I can make those decisions myself.

If, in fact, they played this because the record company "asked" them to because someone there thought a performance of this song would sell alot of records and get casual viewers of the Letterman show interested in Wilco, I really question the judgment behind that thinking. Since Wilco seems to have alot of flexibility regarding the execution of their artistic vision, I guess I'm highly doubtful they would defer to the record company about something like this, which leaves me with the reaction I have above.

  17. shouldn't all the fans who don't want wilco to have more fans, especially in reaction to this new album, be delighted with a sub-par Letterman performance?

    :heehee

From that standpoint, definitely! They sure didn't help their CD sales by that performance. The tour will sell out no matter what.

As a fan of theirs, it would have been nice to show national television what they are capable of in a live setting. A missed opportunity for them to attract some new fans, make some news, and put a smile on the face of their regulars.
