  2. I finally got around to Jolie Holland's Wine Dark Sea. It's pretty amazing- definitely her grittiest album to date.

Just bought the Vinyl. My god i love this strange head trip of a thing. Looks like it is all at 45rpm. odd and not much fun on these non-automated turntables.

  3. Been having trouble getting a physical copy here in the UK. Been listening to streams online for a  while but my CD arrived this morning :banana

Towards the end is tails off a bit, but the first half has some wonderful melodies so well worth it.

Edit: The end has grown on me now :-)

guess i need this now too. shit.

It was our third time in New York
It was your fourth time in New York
We were fifth and sixth on the bill
We talk a little about our bands
Talk a little of our future plans
It's not like we were best of friends
    Why, what did we do?

That number scheme comes back to me
    In times beyond our heartbeat

We hung around till the final band
Called "Escape Is At Hand For The Travelling Man"
You yelled in my ear this music speaks to me
They launched into "Lonely From Rock And Roll"
Followed by "They Checked Out An Hour Ago"
Closing with "All Desires Turn Concrete"

Those melodies come back to me
    At times beyond our heartbeat

I guess I'm too slow, yes, I'm too, yes, I'm too slow
You said any time of the day was fine
You said any time of the night was also fine

I walked through your revolving door
Got no answer on the seventh floor
    Elevator gave a low moan
The pigeons sagged the wire with their weight
    Listening to the singing chambermaid
She sang "They Checked Out An Hour Ago"
    I kind of chuckled

Those melodies come back to me
    In times beyond our heartbeat

I guess I'm too slow, yes, I'm too, yes, I'm too slow
You said any time of the day was fine
You said any time of the night was also fine
Our heartbeat, our heartbeat, our heartbeat

Long conversation or idle chit chat
Maybe dive in or maybe hang back

  6.

Maybe a recording of the YAI will emerge. Sorry you missed it, but sometimes you've gotta do what you've gotta do...I know how that goes. Davey's setlist will be a sweet little consolation prize. :)

D - got it - or at least a picture of it.

  7. I love Ken in a solo live show! How was it? How was attendance?

Also, was Tim Rogers as adorable as always, as with the rest of YAI?

D - the Ken show was astounding. there were maybe 10 people there and my friend got to do the duet of  'Doesn't It Remind You of Something'

Had to skip YAI for some family matters. tant pis. Heard if was a fantastic show of nothing but the hits done flat out. Would have loved to have seen  'How Much is Enough' and 'By My Own Hand' and 'Cathie's Clown' and 'Doug Sahm' and .....

I will be getting Davey's set list supposedly.

  8. Let me know how it is..on the fence about seeing them again..

Totally worth it. If there is a band that can transition well to a stadium, it is them.

I didn't get the 'dress formal' thing until actually going to the show and seeing all these kids absolutely decked out. It turned the whole thing into this fantastic dance club.

We were in the 300 section of the Air Canada Centre right at the back, so not the best seats. Didn't really matter. Everyone was up dancing the whole night - even to the Haitian disco songs.

    Go!

  9. Hurray-for-the-Riff-Raff-700_0.jpg

I first heard Alynda Lee Segarra (aka Hurray For the Riff Raff) a couple of months ago - the first song I heard was this one: Born To WIn (Part One). Immediately hooked. Love her voice and that sound. This is the new one. If you like blues-y southern folk/rock, and smoky vocals, you'll dig this.

YES! saw them last Fall and they were pretty frickin amazing in concert. have yet to hear the new one, but the songs sounded amazing live.

  10. great - there is just soo much to explore with this band. For instance my favourite Fannies song is Hi Fi - and i think it is some B-side from Grand Prix. So much talent to casually toss aside such a good song.

saw the New Mendicants last year and fell in love with Norman's guitar:

Blake now lives in Waterloo and Pernice in Toronto, so I'm counting myself lucky for more of these small shows.

  11. Yeah, me too. I'm pretty sure I'll be giving it a few more spins over the next week.

Finally getting a chance to hear the stream. wow, love it.  I think Stew Crookes (100 dollars' slide guitar guy) is turning out to be a fantastic producer. Hope Doug Paisley still gets to play the Cameron Front room on Sundays.
