stevej
The chords for the 5th fret capo'd version of HMD, here and pinned above, are definitely right on with how Jeff plays. But what is missing here is the intro. It sounds like it's also the same chords post chorus as well. I'm sure it's not too complicated but i'm a six-string dumbass. Any help? You just gotta get the strumming pattern down right. And you can toss in a hammer on between the A-em/g switch, if you're cool.
ginandcigarettes
I hear a chord a lot like this one during the intro where the Em/G is being played (which I would call an A9/G):e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D--10--|A------|E------| The rest of it is as described above (at least to my ear). By way of side note, this chord is technically a D9, but that makes things horribly confusing as we were talking about chords relative to the capo. So not relative to the capo, the chords would be D D9 C A for the intro.

Groo
e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D--10--|A------|E------| Is this chord relative to the capo on 5? Christ, I don't think my guitar goes up to 17 frets...
jhc
Is this chord relative to the capo on 5? Christ, I don't think my guitar goes up to 17 frets... no, that's not relative to the capo. Subtract 5 from all those fret numbers to get the chord relative to the capo.
ginandcigarettes
Is this chord relative to the capo on 5? Christ, I don't think my guitar goes up to 17 frets... Yeah, sorry about that, I guess I made it even more confusing. John's right, that chord is not relative to the capo but its actual position on the neck. I might have to revise that chord a bit. If you listen to the YHF demo (not the engineer demo) you can really hear the acoustic guitar intro and the chord (I could only really hear the high E on the album version and I guessed at the rest of the chord). I'm pretty close but I'll nail it after the weekend.

I'm pretty close but I'll nail it after the weekend. Yeah, I'm right. I go back and forth between these three really similar chords: e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D--10--|A------|E------| e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D--12--|A------|E------| e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D------|A------|E------| *All tab written on ACTUAL neck position not relative to capo And I like the first one the best. Pick which one sounds best to your ear. Oh yeah, if you listen closely, you can hear Jeff lift his fingers off at least the top two strings a couple of times during the measure. I can tab it out but, as Groo is so apt in noting, I am terribly lazy.
Groo
Wow, sounds good. I often wonder how it is that people figure out these weird looking chords. This one is the one that sounds best to me: e--12--|B--10--|G--11--|D--12--|A------|E------| Also, interesting thing I just tried that sounds pretty cool. I put the capo on the 5th fret, but left the bottom two strings (the E and A) un-capoed. I think it gives this chord a fuller sound, and I just muffle the low E when I play the E chord.
