bjorn_skurj
i tried to register as "socialist", but ohio only has democrat, republican and independent. i felt like a hermaphrodite trying to use a public restroom. Not even a Green party? There's a project for you, then.
owl
This friend of mine told me the other day that I must be a commie - becasue my voter card is marked independant. Sweet, I guess that makes two of us. Only in PA, I think that it's "Unaffiliated," not "Independent."
anodyne
is it like this where you live? in ohio, if you fill out your registration in any color ink but black, it is not valid. only registrations on 80 lb paper (cardstock) in black ink count.
Duck-Billed Catechist
I don't know about the ink, but I think that may be the only state with the card stock requirement. I just printed out my change of address form.
owl
My understanding is that black or blue inks hold up better. I think this is a policy for just about every official entity.

Traditionally, Republicans have done whatever they can to restrict the pool of voters, because there's always been more Democrats than Republicans.
Tweedling
Holy shit! You need your ID to vote?! This country really is going down the drain.
Reni
In MO, you just had to bring your voter registration card, that was it.

anodyne
in ohio, you have always had to bring your registration card but no one asked for it. you have to sign in to affirm you are who you say you are (under penalty of law) and that's it. the ID requirements here are so loose that it isn't an undue burden to bring ID, but the problem is that they aren't exactly going out of their way to mention it to anyone. this is a brand new restriction and it's getting nothing in the press. caliber66
You know, while failing to tell people that they are finally enforcing the ID requirement is kind of shady, I don't really have a problem with this. It boggles my mind when I see people walking around in public without identification on them, and if I really thought about the fact that some people would actually go to the polls without so much as their driver's license on them, my head would probably explode. Yeah, hopefully people might assume that IDs are a necessity for even short-distance travel these days.
LouieB
After preaching vociferously about NOT voting for third party candidates in national elections, I plan to vote FOR some third party candidates in the Illinois election. I guess even I have come to the conclusion that some offices just have no major party candidates that don't suck. Sadly I can't be too much more specific about this because I actually work for one of those candidates in a state deptartment he controls....oy vay.... LouieB
owl
Well, I think the key is to not vote in Presidential elections for someone you know is going to lose, especially when one of the two (other) major parties offer someone popular but basically deplorable (i.e. Bush) and the Democrats offer someone electable, not necessarily awesome, but still way better. Atticus
Is literacy a requirement for voting?
Duck-Billed Catechist
No, would you like it to be? That way we can really cut the budgets on public schools and decrease voter turnout even more.

I was just curious. If one is illiterate do the poll staffers read the ballot out to you? Ask the people of Florida I said "literacy" not highly-developed hand/eye coordination.
