foolnrain97
Just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on where to go/ what to do/ places to eat/ things to see while I'm in Iceland between thanksgiving and Christmas. I'll be there(hopefully) for a research project and I suspect that will take up most of my time, but I'll need things to do in the freetime I will have. Thanks in advance. bjorn_skurj
This may not be true, but I heard the Icelandik government has installed giant speakers across the island so Sigur Ros could be blasted all over the country at all times.
M. (hristine
Two people that I know visited Iceland separately this summer. Both of them saw Bjork in a bar Reykjavik. True story.
caliber66
I went to high school with some kids who lived in Iceland for a couple years. About the only thing I got out of our conversations about Iceland is "it's windy."
jff
Mike Watt, recently on tour with The Stooges, wrote a tour diary of his visit to Iceland (among other places). Maybe it'll be helpful to you. kcc
foolnrain, any recommendations after taking this trip? i'm planning to be there for about 2 weeks this summer..
Queen Amaranthine
Recently I caught an episode of Passport to Europe on the Travel Channel about Iceland. The outdoor mineral springs where you can swim most any time of year looked wonderful, kind of like a spa. I was surprised that the nightlife is very active in Reykjavik. Drinks were awfully expensive.
foolnrain97
foolnrain, any recommendations after taking this trip? i'm planning to be there for about 2 weeks this summer..wow, I don't know where to start. There are a lot of things to do and see all over the island. where will you be staying? I'm trying to get my pictures up on the web, it's just taking a while to sort through the 850 some that I took. For starters, I will say that it is very expensive and if you would like to travel comfortably without worrying about money(after lodging and flight expenses), 1000$ US would would be a comfortable allowance for two weeks. If you plan on buying gifts for people or drinking a lot, take more(ie, the cheapest bar in Reykjavik has beer on tap for 6.50$ us, but most places it was more like 8 or 9 for a beer). What kinds of things are you hoping to do? I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.
kcc
we're pretty much wide open at this point. we'll be flying in to reykjavik, staying there a few days, then i guess renting a car and wandering around from there. we're into outdoor stuff- looking to do some camping, hiking (possibly a two or three day backpack), taking photos, and just seeing where that takes us. we like the idea of not having too much planned out ahead of time so that we can spend as much or as little time in the places we come across, but we want to also hit some of the "must see" places there. i guess i was just wondering if you came across some places that you would advise people not to miss.
