The Hold Steady almost killed me....

Recommended Posts

speaking of dishing out money, this reminds me of a little exchange over at oink when boys and girls first leaked...

user 1 - Could anyone talk you into ripping this into LAME -V0 or FLAC?

user 2 - Buy the cd.

user 1 - no. i'd rather download a quality rip, and throw a wadded-up ten at craig when they play here next month. as long as i control where my money goes, nary a cent will find its way into rich egan's bank account. ever.

classic.

Craig gave me a beer when they came out for the encore at the Vancouver show :cheers

how many of your favourite bands do that?

and they rocked, of course.

When I was up on stage in Ottawa (with about 25 of my new best friends), they let me take a beer out of a big bucket-o-beer. That was a first for me..

What a great time! It felt like some drunken college party with the band spraying the audience with beer and crowd surfing. There was even a drum-set band member pile on.

With all the hype, the audience is starting to turn from us old geezers who remember Lifter Puller into young indie chicks and their trendy boyfriends; the kind of new fans who push up to the stage, and then act all pissed off if they get bumped.

One of the aspects that I'd not picked up from the CDs was the band's Catholcism. Finn crossed himself a couple times and there were reference to Priests and confessions that don't come out in the songs of Chillout Tents, Junior Colleges, massive parties, Holly and Gideon. Finn also seemed sincerely grateful about all the success, saying that the absolute joy presented on stage, was channeled directly from the audience.

The Hold Steady did almost kill me.

And, I'm an idiot for not picking up the religious stuff from songs like Citris:

'hey citrus

hey liquor

I love it when when you touch each other

hey whiskey

hey ginger

I come to you with rigid fingers.

i see judas in the hard eyes of the boys working the corners.

i feel jesus in the clumsiness of young and awkward lovers.'
