'Doogie Howser' star comes out -- with pridePOSTED: 8:58 a.m. EST, November 4, 2006 LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary. "(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site. The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships." Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."
cryptique
Weird. I swear I read about this a few months ago, yet here it is as "news." Maybe I just have fantastic gaydar?
WildMercurySound
I always thought the older brother in Malcolm in the Middle was played by this guy, but it's not. The guy who plays him is the brother of Hyde from That 70s Show, but they have to be SAB. I kind of like How I Met Your Mother.

LouieB
Why is it ever a shock when someone comes out any more, particularly people in the arts? This is not homophobia by the way, I have a nephew who is gay and studying theater, it is a fact. Sadly lots of people in the arts continue to hide their preference because of the stigma still attached to it. It is the same logic that drove many actors who were Jewish to take stage names because they would not get parts, the same kind of thing goes for gay actors as well. For every Nathan Lane, I am sure there are plenty of up and coming actors who don't feel coming out is a good career move. LouieB
