socbret
Just went through Wendy's and they were giving out free "Texas Music" cds if you got a Dr. Pepper with your meal. I saw that Rhett Miller was on it, and thought that was pretty funny. Anybody get a chance to listen to it, and if so what track is it?
Mrs. Peel
Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest since he's also now doing the "I Want My Baby Back Baby Back Baby Back" song for Chili's?
aricandover
Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest since he's also now doing the "I Want My Baby Back Baby Back Baby Back" song for Chili's? we were just joking about that the other night. is it really him? and if so, will folks around here be just as pissed as they are about Common doing a GAP ad? Dr. Steve Brule
From the old 97s website:Commercials: 4 (Rhett's cover of Paul Simon's "Homeward Bound" for MasterCard, the Chili's spot by the Old 97's, the Shiner Beer campaign featuring Rhett and the band, and the EA Sports/Madden NFL ad with the Old 97's "Question")
socbret
Lmao, I mentioned to my friend a week or two ago when this commercial popped up that the riff sounded completly ripped off from "Timebomb". I wasn't even listening to the voice. Oy vey .
SarahC
Okay, here I go. Being as I am tired from working all day I am just going to be brief-- The Chili's thing was a mutual decision made by the entire band. They all have kids now (well, Murry's is due in a few months) and they can't really tour. Rhett's daughter is still really young, so they have to make money some way. Commercials are an easy pay check, and were pretty much the only band that wasn't doing commercials. Seriously, everybody has to make a living. I doubt Rhett has any say-so about his song being on that thing for the fast food. Generally, a label can do that. Being as his current label is owned by Universal I would say it's highly unlikely he had total control over it. Regardless, at the end of the day what he and the old 97's are doing is a job. I for one and happy they are still around... there's a big tour planned for the spring, btw.
