damo
anyone know whos gonna be supporting wilco when they go to australia? i heard augie march but dunno if its that right
froggie
i heard Glenn Richards from Augie March as well... it was in the herald-sun yesterday
FixedBayonet
Yep - Glenn Richards is indeed the support act. Why, I have no idea. Not that Augie March are particularly bad at all, in fact, I think that band would have been a better choice than Gelbison and Gersey were here in Aust last time. But Glenn Richards solo... hmmm. Interesting prospect. I've seen him play solo before and he seems to be afflicted with a terrible nervous twitch that makes watching him quite awkward. Which bands would you blokes have chosen as a support act?
skeletalexplosive
I think a solo Tex Perkins support, or Tex and Tim Rogers would have been quite nice. Or even the Sleepy Jackson with a slightly toned down live set of their new album. hmm
froggie
Paul kelly would be a good choice or Ed kuepper (just i can get 2 of my fave artists in on show!)
Humming Bird
Paul kelly would be a good choice or Ed kuepper (just i can get 2 of my fave artists in on show!) I think that Neko Case or M. Ward would be good openers for Wilco. Maybe even Jay Bennet, just kidding. Neko Case wins my vote though.
froggie
Paul kelly would be a good choice as for Paul kelly, i dont know what his popularity is like overseas but he's very dylanesque (even opened for him in 2001 down here) and has a resemblance to tweedy solo shows.. that would have been a good choice or even better, jeff can do some solo stuff before the band comes on
skeletalexplosive
Paul Kelly would be great, especially a set with the Stormwater Boys. Excellent idea
candyflosser
Paul Kelly is a VERY good fit for Wilco, some of you non aussies on here should check him out. Songs- From STKilda to Kings cross. Leaps and Bounds Melting How to make Gravy To her door... etc One of my favourite artists
Basil II
The Sleepy Jackson (Luke Steele) would be an innarestin' opener...... -Robert.
asleepykisser
My first choice would have been Bluebottle Kiss who last year released one of the most criminally under-appreciated Aussie albums that I can recall; the double CD set Doubt Seeds. I highly recommend getting hold of this album if you've not heard it. I also would have been rather happy with The Panics, The Sleepy Jackson or Augie March.
H to the ickle
I'd love to hear The Mess Hall open for Wilco again, they were really great and also Australian.
damo
dont international bands that come here have to have an australian support, thats what i heard anyway. so no M Ward a cool acoustic sleepy jackson would be sweet, the crayon fields would be cool as too machine translations and gelbison
