solace
Hype over substance.................boringwow you're just a barrel of fun aren't you? hype? yeah... cuz nobody hear has been talking about Andrew for the last 3-4 years on Via (and even longer elsewhere/offline) you can consider him boring all you want, but Andrew is singlehandedly more talented than probably 90% of what gets discussed on this forum, and that's a fact jack. nepatriots
You just backed up my point overly hyped here and other outlets, which is not deserved considering his music goes nowhere, round and round with no exhibited purpose. Yes he may be talented and have all sorts of ideas but this does not equal a enjoyable listen ie Scott Walker's output in recent years. I call it the Pitchfork mentality. Moe_Syzlak
Hype over substance.................boringArguing about the merits of something as subjective as art and/or entertainment is an exercise in futility... as is going into a thread about an artist or entertainer purely for the sake of insulting someone else's tastes. I call it the Pitchfork mentality.YOU think his music goes nowhere, i think Armchairs is one of the years best record (would be my #1 if not for Boxer) and that his melodies are incredibly catchy and infectious, his lyrics clever & witty, and his voice to die for... You know, you don't need to use an alias to speak your mind. I appreciate your opinion in any event.yeah, that's pretty dumb Ben did you think nobody would check? Better voice than most.Lyrically better than most.More musically talented than most.I'd love to say I'm over-hyping him, but you can't over-hype the truth. That's not to say every song is pure gold, but seriously, why enter this topic if only to be a troll? I think Mr. Walker is extremely difficult to listen to, hence the reason you won't see me posting in a topic regarding his stuff.

I should add I agree on your opinion of the Boxer and The National in general tremendous is the only word that comes to mind when discussing the band and their musical output to date. I had never heard of them until I saw them talked about on this board, so I gave them a listen and wow!!!

caliber66
yeah, that's pretty dumb Ben did you think nobody would check? Now I understand this post. Seriously, my thoughts on Andrew Bird are as follows: the Youtube clip where he whistled and played a bunch of instruments on that kids' show was pretty cool. I really haven't listened to enough of his music to have formed more of an opinion, and even if I had, would not have put it as nepatriots did. Granted, his style is so much of a departure from mine that it could be seen as intentional masking but it's just not so. I have never heard anything by Scott Walker or the National, nor do I know whether "the Boxer" refers to a band, an album or the song by Simon and Garfunkel.
Wendy
Well, I for one have learned a lot about IP addresses with this snafu. First and most importantly - To Ben/caliber66/Ninjas E. Liverwurst I extend my sincerest apologies for erroneously pointing at you as hiding behind a pseudonym. Plus, I really should have known you would be incapable of using poor grammar and spelling even as an attempt to further disguise. But it never dawned on me that there could be more than one person per IP address. Soooo, hope you can forgive me for starting this whole mess by thinking it was you. To nepatriots/david - With the benefit of hindsight, you're the only one here who should be busted for having two names. Seriously, take a rest from raining on everyone's parade about Andrew Bird. We get it already. You don't like him. Rest assured, you will never convince those of us who love Andrew Bird to change our minds.
solace
that's not true Wendy, because of this and the other thread, i now hate Andrew and his assface with the fiery passion of 1,000 suns

Liverwurst I extend my sincerest apologies for erroneously pointing at you as hiding behind a pseudonym. Not necessary, and not a problem. You guys do a good job of keeping everyone honest, and this seems like a pretty unusual situation. An honest mistake. And if nothing else, this caper inspired me to listen to some Andrew Bird for the last half hour at work today. Still good music, but I still couldn't quote you any lyrics, though. rwrkb
frankly, i think andrew bird is one of the most creative and innovative musicians around right now. his last three albums have all be very good and the last two have been hands down some of the greatest albums in that time period, and frankly beyond it as well. It was never my intention to convince anybody to change their mind, just expressing my opnion.
solace
not to open this can o worms back up... but as i stated in the other thread, the fact that you like Guster a good deal yet find Andrew's lyrics "shallow" amuses me. Andrew's lyrics are deceptively clever... that is all.
