trestle
I'll second that- and maybe a solo show at the NorVa.
LouisvilleGreg
The New Toad's Place on the Canal Turning Basin is up and running and hosting a wide variety of shows. I think it's in the 1,500 capacity which should be adequate for a Richmond Wilco show. The National Theatre on Broad Street is also nearing completion. It's been since the "Being There" tour, I think ten years this summer since the last show. They've played Norfolk, Williamsburg, Charlottesville as the full band and Tweedy solo, so I would think that Richmond is definitely due. The key would be to try and contact booking agents for the above venues and alert them of Wilco's touring itinerary which is posted in advance on High Roads page. Glad to see some fellow Richmonders aching for a show, I'm gonna drive 570 miles to the Louisville show with DR Dog in September, that's far as hell for sure. Keep up the faith. you ever seen a ghost?
i didn't know there was more than one Richmonder on the board! The National is going to be where it's at...being as how they are going to be booked in tandem with The NorVa and because it's a historic theater with great acoustics. that's basically the type of place that Wilco plays these days. where do you live at DBoon? -justin
RainDogToo
I'll second that- and maybe a solo show at the NorVa. I would love a solo show or a Wilco show. I wish they would play the Norva again. I've been a Wilco fan for 5 years and the Norfolk show back in 2004 was the only show I've been to. It's time for another one!!!!
jimmyjimmy
Hey guys, what's Toad's like and how many people does it hold? I've got tix. for Andrew Bird in Sept. I was in town this past weekend talking with a fellow up on W. Cary St. and he said they're still working on getting their liquor license in order. BTW...for any of you who have in the past frequented Starr Hill up in C,ville to catch a show, the venue is no more. It's been sold and rumor is that it'll be converted into a "sports-type" bar. I'm still smarting over that one....
royanna
Here's another Hampton Roads Wilco fan. I have lived here for 2 years, and every time I see a show at the Norva I think about seeing Wilco there. The William & Mary show was at such an awful venue, the gym acoustics were terrible. We'd drive to Richmond in a heartbeat. Glad to see other local Wilco fans on the board.

It's time for another one!!!! that was my first Wilco show. the first time i met Tweedy too. it was a GA show, so i got there extremely early (not knowing about their early entrance policy through the restaurant). anyway, Tweedy was walking down the street several hours beforehand. i stopped to say hi and shake his hand, but foolish me, i didn't get a pic or autograph from him. i didn't even know how to start conversation. luckily, i wasn't as star-struck by the time the C-ville solo show rolled around. it's a shame that there isn't a recording of this show! -justin

We were the very first three people in line. I saw Tweedy walking around as well. He looked like he had been shopping. Now I see someone before virtually every show. Mikael was standing right out front of the Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte a couple of months back for 15 minutes or more and I don't think anyone other than myself even knew who he was. Pat was in a deli two tables down from me in Chapel Hill. Saw Glen twice in the same day walking around Morgantown. All I've ever done is give nods, I can't really imagine what to say. What ever happened to our plans for the Village? Perhaps several of us could meet there or elsewhere. Take care, Greg

For my first Wilco show I got be in the front row!! How cool was that? I wish I would have got to meet Jeff though. I did get to see John walk by the window when I was eating in the restaurant. It was such a great night- probably the best show I ever went to!!! I will never forget it. I would do anything to get to another show- it's a shame I was only ever at one show. I did buy tickets to the William and Mary show but at the last minute I was unable to get up there So, here's hoping for another Norva show or a Virginia show!!! Oh, I have the NorVa recording! and it has a great sound quality! I was given it in secrecy, and wasn't allowed to put it up online. I do have it, although I listened to it so much that the discs must have scratched and some of the last couple tracks skip now. I had to wait over a year after the show to finally get a hold of it. you ever seen a ghost?
hey Greg! we definitely need to do that soon. i've just been extremely busy recently with traveling, work, family stuff, etc. i'd still love to do it though...and soon too! i must have passed by you at the NorVa show too! i did get to talk to Tweedy about the new album after the C-ville solo show. he was very kind/generous. RAIN DOG, you must have been right beside me at that NorVa show. i got front row too...and i saw John walk by the window of the restaurant. we must have been right together! i've seen several shows there since and apparently, you only have to drink now to get an early entrance ticket. would you be interested in running off a copy of that show? i'd definitely suggest doing that (at least for yourself) so you can always have a good copy. CD readers oftentimes do better than CD players, so you might be able to get a perfect quality burn before the discs get any worse. also, i'm sure you'll get another VA show...probably this fall too. chaslor
I probably drank beer with you in the pre-line at Norva. Fond remembrances can be seen Here and Here too charles
you ever seen a ghost?
hmm, your pictures look a lot like mine. well, next time Wilco comes to Richmond or Tidewater, we should all together for drinks or something. -justin

RainDogToo
For any of you Richmonders who are interested! I found this article talking about the new venues going head to head in the Richmond area. It also mentions The NorVa and WILCO!!! I hope they play both Norfolk and Richmond!!! Both venues will book in tandem with highly regarded industry leaders, who are also affiliated with both projects; Toad
RainDogToo
Hey all you Virginians who want a Wilco show (at the NorVA) I e-mailed them today asking if there would be a Wilco show in their future saying it was time for another NorVA show- here is the response I got back: I agree with you but they may be too big for The NorVa right now ... My suggestion to you is that you continually blast their web site and MySpace page with requests to have them return To The NorVa ... Please get your friends and other fans to do the same ... This may help !!!
Coltrane
Richmond roll call!!!Thanks for the info on Toad's Place and The National. I really don't like the Norva, but you cannot argue with the bands they have booked there in the past few years. The venue for a Richmond area Wilco show already exists - the Landmark Theatre down near VCU. There were enough people at either the William & Mary or C-Ville shows last year to have sold that place out pretty easy. I haven't been there in a few years, but that is a great place to see a show. Also, did anyone make it to the Jason Isbell show at Canal club last month?

I thought it was a nice venue. I thought for sure Wilco would come back and play there bacause the show was sold out- I mean... that's a good sign! I just thought I'd see them here again. RainDogToo
So, I e-mailed High Road Touring to ask them if Wilco will play The NorVa or anywhere else in in Virginia in the near future- here's the reply I got back: They won't play there this next time around but they will be getting tovirginia in oct.....stay tuned Then I said "no NorVa then?" they said: Sorry... no NorVA. oh well...
