LouieB
They play Chicago rather frequently. Seen them many times. (But I always miss Tom Ray......he was great....) One of the best shows I ever saw was Brian Henneman do a solo show though..... LouieB

LouieB
Suh-weet!!! Brian did a request from the audience for a song called "Party Boy" that is on none of the BR CDs as far as I can tell. I don't do the search for show/download thing, but if there is a copy of this show somewhere (it was at Schubas) I sure would like to know about it. LouieB

Absolute classic. For those of you that haven't seen the Bottle Rockets, you should.

I think I won free tix to this show and took a couple other BR fans with me. Actually I saw the BR prior to seeing either Wilco or Son Volt and it was also a show that I will never forget (lost a bit of hearing at it.) It was about the time I was getting back into seeing rock in general and sure was fun. I would have to say that losing Tom Ray was a blow and then losing Tom Parr was also too bad, but Brian is a great guitarist and songwriter. The BR have been struggling in recent years, but at least have landed on Bloodshot and seem more consistant of late. LouieB

LouieB
The Skokie gig was fun. Not alot of people. Brian said he had never been in Skokie in his life, but had been in London too many times. Despite the small audience he played well. Looks like a new album is forthcoming and last nigth was the last time they were playing until after the first of the year. LouieB
Brian apparently went on an Atkins type diet a few years back and the guy is skinny as a rail. Kind of weird. LouieB
Analogman
May 02 '08 12:11 pm The Bottle Rockets Celebrate 15 Years With Select Shows 1993 -- a grim time for music. C&C Music Factory dominated the charts, parachute pants were the height of fashion and guitars were considered outre. It was into this lions den of music industry pulchritude that Brian Henneman, Mark Ortmann and The Bottle Rockets strode, authoritatively dropping the hammer with rich slabs of incendiary rock 'n' roll that borrowed generously from roots traditions, but was clearly of its own lineage. Fifteen years later, most of the worst indulgences of the early '90s are scoffed at, but the Bottle Rockets are still going strong--revitalized, if anything--with an enviable body of work and their best yet to come. For all of 2008, to gear up for a forthcoming Bloodshot album (to be released in 2009,) The Bottle Rockets are playing 15 select shows world wide to celebrate the anniversary. This is your chance to join the band in an anniversary celebration of all they've accomplished and the remarkable work to come. In addition, Brian will play all dates with a custom made guitar (worth $1500) courtesy of Creston Electric Instruments that will be given away at the last show of 2008 via a live webcast. In addition to the guitar, the band will be awarding a "Bottle Rockets for Life" prize package to a lucky fan that includes all past and future albums, t-shirts, and free tickets to any show, anytime (contest details at www.bottlerocketsmusic.com. New dates will be announced year-long--go to the band's tour page for details
watch me fall
That's good news. Thanks for posting that, A-man. I saw them last January in a small club here in Columbia. There couldn't have been more than 20 people there. It was pretty embarrassing. No wonder we don't get good acts to play here very often.
Analogman
The only Bottle Rockets album I have ever heard was The Brooklyn Side - which I actually gave away for some odd reason years ago. Another one of those bands that I have read a lot about, but never really listened to.

poppydawn
I missed them in St. Louis on Saturday due to the perpetual lack of a babysitter. I heard it was one hell of a show, though. The only Bottle Rockets album I have ever heard was The Brooklyn Side - which I actually gave away for some odd reason years ago. Another one of those bands that I have read a lot about, but never really listened to. I listen to "24 Hours a Day" fairly often. I also like they Doug Sahm tribute album, "Son of Sahm". I just recently started listening to "Zoysia", and I'm kicking myself for waiting two years to pick it up.
LouieB
All good stuff, but the Brooklyn Side takes the cake.... (but I miss the good old days when all four original members were there including Tom Ray...) LouieB
SoulardBee
The Bottle Rockets show on Sat. night was really good. They have employed their message board to create their setlists for this 15th Anniversary Tour. The only songs they are choosing are during the encore. I have attached a link to a review from the St Louis Post Dispatch. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/entertain...F2?OpenDocument
Doug C
Brian and the BRox are one the most consistently excellent live acts. I was familiar with Brian from being a Tupelo lover. I first saw them tropical Heatwave in Tampa after The Brooklyn Side had been released. Heatwave is a 3 stage one day festival. We chose to see BRox over other acts on the strength of hearing Welfare Music on WMNF. We have been big fans ever since. The album before Zoysia, Live From Heilbronner Germany, is excellent and was recorded on Brian's birthday. The energy comes through. They have had some personnel changes over the years but the current line up is tight and rocks. Go see them when the opportunity arises.
LouieB
Brian and the BRox are one the most consistently excellent live acts. This is quite true. Unfortunately fiscal success has never attached itself to Brian and he continues to labor in a bit of obscurity. LouieB
