wilcohead
hahahahah!! yeah you're right. Its due to Jeff's incredible singing ability and the bands incredible live presence. Plus the 8 studio albums that just get better with every listen. It all started with Mermaid Avenue volume 1 Ahhhhh back in the day.......................
froggie
sure the usual suspects get played at every show, but there is variety there lately. i never thought Box full of letters or Too far apart would be played with the full band again.. seeing 3 consecutive shows in april, it was great to hear mountain bed, when the roses bloom again, acuff rose, via chicago, misunderstood and one by one over that period
wilcohead
dang I need a mountain bed... When I heard that last utah show, it made me cry. Such a gorgeous song.
Guest Alan
i understand the static comments, but they are taking baby steps right now. this lineup is starting to hit their stride and i think they'll start mixing it up more and more. yeah, some bands mix up their sets better, but most don't. and the ones that do have been playing together longer and mostly have a larger catalog to pull from. Guest Alan
Wilco doesn't want to be the GD or Phish, and we don't want that either. All 3 of those bands are quite unique. The thing to keep in mind also is that with TGD or Phish, those bands had (relatively) the same core members for 20-30 years. They knew each other better than most families. It was much easier to just walk out there with no idea of what was going to happen, and it (usually) came off pretty damn coherent. Wilco has had this lineup for what, 3 years? Now if they stay intact for a long long time this will be more possible to mix it up alot more. Time will tell... should have read your post first. BUT, i don't think any wilco fan would be upset if wilco were as creative with their setlists as the dead or phish were.
wilcohead
I appreciate and agree with your above posts Alan.
deluxe
they reinforced my addiction too for sure, but at the same time I was a little disappointed. I traveled almost 1000 miles round trip for those shows and got 11 or more some odd repeats. I drove 6 hours from NM so you have me beat. That said, I enjoyed both shows equally and think they have really perfected their sound.
wilcohead
I think night 2 was a superior performance. But night 1 was incredible all the same and...... I'll agree that they have perfected their sound.... its brilliant.
PotKettleTug
should have read your post first. BUT, i don't think any wilco fan would be upset if wilco were as creative with their setlists as the dead or phish were. I think if Nels stays intact and has a creative influence in the band I really see this as the direction they take eventually, maybe not to the same degree but Impossible Germany, Side with the Seeds could be a couple cornerstone jam out #'s for them.
