Kalle
Well guys Mattew Good (Canadian singer/songwriter) played the University here in the Sault on Monday. And now there is huge contreversy over what occured during the concert. I did not attend but I certainly wish I did! This reminded me of Jeff quite a bit (not taken as far) but I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts on this. Here is the original review of the Matt Good show on a local news website in the Sault. http://sootoday.com/content/news/full_stor...oryNumber=27618 Here is Matt Good's blog in which he mentions the show on Monday. http://www.matthewgood.org/2007/10/a-fanta...ste-your-money/ Here is Algoma University's representative replying to Matthew Good's blog post and about what she thought went on during that show. http://sootoday.com/content/news/full_stor...oryNumber=27633 Here is Matt Good's blog about what Algoma University said http://www.matthewgood.org/2007/10/in-all-fairness-indeed/ And here is the Sootoday article concerning all of this. http://sootoday.com/content/news/full_stor...oryNumber=27653 If you would take the time you might find it interesting. I feel almost embarassed by the people that attended shows etiquette and Algoma University's representative. Hearing your thoughts on this would be great.
OOO
Lastly, I am not an entertainer, nor have I ever been. I am an artist, I write and perform my own material, and am therefore not to be held to Las Vegas standards of ensuring that people are entertained. I perform music and people pay to see me do just that, not to watch me juggle or do stand up. To suggest that it is my responsibility to attempt to ‘win’ the attention of a crowd at this point of my career is absolutely insulting. Were I performing in a country where I was little known perhaps that might be the case, but being that this latest record debuted at #1 in this country, and records previous to it have, since 1999, debuted routinely in the top 10, if not the top 5, the suggestion that I strive to entertain the drunken insensibilities of college students is insulting. I sided with him until this bit.
GtrPlyr
Interesting bit of back and forth there. Overall I definitely have to side with Matt, it sounds like he did nothing to warrant such a response.
street spirit
It's not his fault, but he seems to attract assholes for some reason. The roughest mosh pit I've ever been at was a Matthew Good Band Show in 2000... a girl broke her wrist. Also, I obviously can't speak to whether the allegations that he was a prima donna backstage are true or not in this case, I can say that i worked on a show a couple of years ago and he was an insufferable prick to the (almost entirely volunteer) staff, even though they went out of their way to bend over backwards for him. He also had a wrench thrown at him later in the evening... which was a bit harsh and also unrelated, but backs up the asshole fanbase theory.
bobfrombob
This is really more of a commentary on me than Matthew Good but I heard about him and from him before I ever heard his music. I heard enough negative stuff said about him, and arrogant stuff he said himself, that I've never been at all interested in hearing his music. So none of this surprises me and I'm still not interested in hearing him. Which could very well be my loss. I'm shallow.
street spirit
he's a dick, but i saw him acoustic last year, and it was surprisingly good.
