lizish
I snuck into Trin-St Pauls last Thursday for a taping of Fuse. For those not familiar with Fuse, it's a CBC show that puts 2 different performers on a stage and asks them to meld. Last Thursday Rock Plaza Central did this with Tafelmusik in one gigantic face off. If you are lucky enough to be Canadian, or have Siruis Radio, you can listen on Dec 8th CBC's Fuse with Tafelmusik So, two nights ago we recorded a special show for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation here in Toronto, joining forces with the internationally reknowned Baroque ensemble Tafelmusik. It was a really magical evening, as I think everyone there, from the performers to the audience, will attest. And it will air on December 8 at 3pm on the show Fuse on Radio 1. At least it will on air here at that time. And should be the same time locally across Canada. Online, I think you can listen on Sirius satellite channel 137 at 6am and 1pm ET. Please check it out! Chris The next night was a small club performance with RPC opening for Cuff the Duke. My god, if you can, see this band. Performances were incredible with crazed drumming, rapid accordian playing and twin trumpets lopping off the wings of angels. We ended up talking to Eaton, John Whytock and Donald Murray for a long time about the previous night's performance, Albany NY, the locally recorded second cd and how truly strange Chris Eaton's writing is. Best part was introducing Eaton to a couple friends of my daughters: 18 year old: 'Are We Not Horses' has gotten me through a lot. I blast it while working the midnight Tim Horton's shift baking doughnuts' Chris Eaton (not sure of what to say): 'umm, we really like Tim Hortons. In fact we stopped there on the way here' conversation ends awkwardly. Bought one of Eaton's books. Can't wait to read it and then try to figure what the fuck is going on. lizish
So I listened to the broadcast last night and it was even better than I remember. Trouble is, I don't think they put this stuff online and that makes me sad. It really was a joyous occasion with a Baroque opera segueing into 'We've Got a Lot To Be Glad For' Just incredible and in the words of Amanda Putz, the host, the only time that the radio show has ever got a standing ovation. http://www.cbc.ca/fuse/ Latest Show Show: FUSEDate: 2007/12/08 CONCERTO IN A MINOR FOR VIOLIN AND ORCHESTRA HOW SHALL I TO HEAVEN ASPIRE I AM AN EXCELLENT STEEL HORSE MY CHILDREN BE JOYFUL ST CECILIA'S DANCE WHEN I AM LAID IN EARTH/WITH DROOPING WINGS/WE'VE GOT A LOT TO BE GLAD FOR
Wendy
You're sure lucky to have seen and then heard this twice! Dang, I was so hoping it would be "click and listen" -able. I would love to be listening to that on this dreary Sunday afternoon. Well, I think I need to put Sirius radio on my Christmas list.
lizish
Looks like it might be eventually available, but I don't see it yet http://radio3.cbc.ca/blogs/2007/12/FUSE-is-alive-on-Radio-3 I always have problems listening to the Radio 3 podcasts - ie trying to listen to the Andre Ethier one and it will not work... Wendy
Oh, this is fantastic!!! I've listened to a few songs but work beckons ( ). Thanks again Liz for keeping us updated on this. I love it! Without a doubt, I'll be listening tonight after work. I finally hooked up my Bose Wave CD/radio thingy to my computer, so now everything on my PC plays through those speakers! It's a whole new listening experience now. OK, really. I have to work. Wait ... maybe just listen to "15 Hands" ... and then work.

holweger
Cool, glad to see this is available now. My band had the pleasure of opening for Rock Plaza Central in Minneapolis last fall. Really nice folks......Chris, John, Don & Fionna are planning to record some horns & strings on a couple songs for our new record. (Hopefully later this month) We sent them the rough mixes, and they're gonna record their parts and send em back. Can't wait to hear how it turns out.
