MKHstudios
I got a room for the week at the Hyatt on S Wacker. Four large blocks from the el station (bus stops closer), huge and impersonal (2000+ rooms) - not my first choice, but cheap. I booked via Priceline. I first bid $57 a night and was denied. I rebid adding a second zone and raising by $2 ... accepted. Total: $69 per night (room $59 tax $10). You got to love Shatner!
billfall
I don't know if this helps much or if it was already mentioned (sorry I didn't go back and read all the posts), but I was at a wedding this summer in Chicago where the couple rented out this entire Bed and Breakfast for a week and it couldn't have been lovelier. The reason I am posting is because I remember passing right by the Riv when we were on our way to this really fun Honky Tonk bar called "Carol's" Don't think the B and B is in the same neighborhood as the Riv, (House 5863 is in Andersonville) but it was close enough to where we did pass right by during a short drive.Don't know the prices..Sorry House 58635863 North Glenwood AvenueChicago, IllinoisUnited States 60660 Edit:found the website

Could have been my bad searching though. 5863 is deep in the heart of Edgewater (Andersonville is really just an area, not a neighborhood but you are correct it is adjactent to the Andersonville business district) and although not walking distance from the Riv (although it could be) it is really close. The Riv is 4800 on Broadway so really this is just about a mile and a half from this B&B. B?&Bs can be really nice, but generally more money than hotels. Wilco should be given an award for bringing in rock tourists. It looks like VCers and other Wilcoites are going to fill up all the accommedations. LouieB
LouieB
The Days in on Diversy and Wilco get mentioned in the same paragraph in this goofy article in the Red Eye about rockers and hotels in Chicago....... LouieB

VenusStopsTrain2
So thanks everyone for your help. I am excited to see Wilco at the Riv and have booked myself and a friend in at the Days Inn Lincoln Park! Woo hoo. We are also excited to be going to IKEA and do some random shopping around town. LouieB
Is there an Ikea IN Chicago now? I only know about the one out by Woodfield. LouieB
VenusStopsTrain2
Oh sorry Louie..didn't mean to confuse. Nah neither are IN Chicago. There are actually 2 though. One in Schaumburg as well as one in Bolingbrook. We will be going the one in Schaumburg, we love going there for all the good restaurants and shops.

There was talk of one being put somewhere on the northside, but it never happened. Guess the other chain stores took up all the real estate. It would have been nice to see one go in on the Elston or Cylbourn corridors somewhere. LouieB

VenusStopsTrain2
Sometime on Saturday before the show I think would be good. I'm still wondering how many others are staying there. lol. You are going to all 5 nights aren't you? My friend and I are all excited to stay there so we can get a cab to/from the show and save on trying to find parking. Getting a cab is a great idea. There are also bus lines as well, but frankly if you have the dough, jump a cab. LouieB
VenusStopsTrain2
Aw Louie.. haha just messin! I think we all know you live in Chicago just from all the great advice you give and how you answer all our questions. Yeah I thought about a bus but figured it would be easier to get a cab directly. LouieB
Nah just grab a cab or better yet, catch an el train (or catch a fire, if you are Bob Marley fan...) Remember to tell the cabbie to go north... LouieB
turtlegirl37
I would add (not that I'm an expert after my two trips to Chicago): don't be scared of taking the el or the bus. I'm from a town of 350 and my hubby is from a town of 800- not a bit of public transportation in sight, in other words - and we figured it out just fine. It was cheap, fairly efficient, and much less stressful than trying to drive in Chicago - also less scary than some of the cabbies I've encountered. Just a thought. Enjoy the shows, all y'all! LouieB
Actually the els and buses are very safe until all hours of the night on the North side and full of people on the Red and Brown lines. I don't recommend taking the train too late or to parts of town you may not know, but otherwise yea, it may be less scary than a cab ride at some points, but then I rarely take cabs. As with any big city cab ride, it helps to know sort of where you are going to make sure you are not being taken the long way around on a cab. LouieB
VenusStopsTrain2
Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestion of the Days Inn...we found it really nice and easy to get to/from. The guys in the lobby helped us figure out where the bus stop was and how easy it would be to get back and forth to the Riviera I may stay there when I come up to see Nels.
