help me pick from these CHI hotels

Recommended Posts

I got a room for the week at the Hyatt on S Wacker. Four large blocks from the el station (bus stops closer), huge and impersonal (2000+ rooms) - not my first choice, but cheap. I booked via Priceline. I first bid $57 a night and was denied. I rebid adding a second zone and raising by $2 ... accepted. Total: $69 per night (room $59 tax $10).

You got to love Shatner!

I don't know if this helps much or if it was already mentioned (sorry I didn't go back and read all the posts), but I was at a wedding this summer in Chicago where the couple rented out this entire Bed and Breakfast for a week and it couldn't have been lovelier.

The reason I am posting is because I remember passing right by the Riv when we were on our way to this really fun Honky Tonk bar called "Carol's" Don't think the B and B is in the same neighborhood as the Riv, (House 5863 is in Andersonville) but it was close enough to where we did pass right by during a short drive.

Don't know the prices..Sorry

House 5863

Wow, this must be really new because I did a B&B search for someone a week or so ago and it didn't come up. Could have been my bad searching though. 5863 is deep in the heart of Edgewater (Andersonville is really just an area, not a neighborhood but you are correct it is adjactent to the Andersonville business district) and although not walking distance from the Riv (although it could be) it is really close. The Riv is 4800 on Broadway so really this is just about a mile and a half from this B&B. B?&Bs can be really nice, but generally more money than hotels.

Wilco should be given an award for bringing in rock tourists. It looks like VCers and other Wilcoites are going to fill up all the accommedations.

Oh sorry Louie..didn't mean to confuse. Nah neither are IN Chicago. There are actually 2 though. One in Schaumburg as well as one in Bolingbrook. We will be going the one in Schaumburg, we love going there for all the good restaurants and shops.

I have been to the one in Schaumberg, but I guess I was unaware there was one in Bollingbrook. There was talk of one being put somewhere on the northside, but it never happened. Guess the other chain stores took up all the real estate. It would have been nice to see one go in on the Elston or Cylbourn corridors somewhere.

Sometime on Saturday before the show I think would be good. I'm still wondering how many others are staying there. lol. You are going to all 5 nights aren't you? My friend and I are all excited to stay there so we can get a cab to/from the show and save on trying to find parking.

I was half kidding really, since I will probably lining up for the show on Saturday, but there are five more days....so maybe another day.

Getting a cab is a great idea. There are also bus lines as well, but frankly if you have the dough, jump a cab.

I would add (not that I'm an expert after my two trips to Chicago): don't be scared of taking the el or the bus. I'm from a town of 350 and my hubby is from a town of 800- not a bit of public transportation in sight, in other words - and we figured it out just fine. It was cheap, fairly efficient, and much less stressful than trying to drive in Chicago - also less scary than some of the cabbies I've encountered. Just a thought. Enjoy the shows, all y'all! :dancing

Actually the els and buses are very safe until all hours of the night on the North side and full of people on the Red and Brown lines. I don't recommend taking the train too late or to parts of town you may not know, but otherwise yea, it may be less scary than a cab ride at some points, but then I rarely take cabs. As with any big city cab ride, it helps to know sort of where you are going to make sure you are not being taken the long way around on a cab.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestion of the Days Inn...we found it really nice and easy to get to/from. The guys in the lobby helped us figure out where the bus stop was and how easy it would be to get back and forth to the Riviera :) I may stay there when I come up to see Nels.
