Tweedy's Gurl
Just borrow a kid and save the child support payments for other shows..... \LouieB Hi dad.
loraaw
I know the band (errrr, Jeff) always comments on it and likes when kids are in the audience. But at a recent Wilco GA show, I was at the stage and the family next to me had 3 or 4 kids ranging in age from about 5 to 11. Then there was a dad next to them with a son, 6 (I know cuz the other kids asked him). ALL these kids proceeded to sit on the floor (yes, even during songs) and it then became mine and everyone else's responsibility to not step on their fingers. It took away from my enjoyment of the show. Not that I wanted to cut a rug or anything, but I literally had to keep my feet planted in one spot for 4 hours. Even when these kids weren't sitting on the floor, they couldn't see over the wall in front of us (and had they been farther back they wouldn't have been able to see over the people) and I felt bad for them. The one little fella with his dad spent the night sleeping on the floor between his dad's feet. Unlike the other family, his dad kept him well protected (so he didn't bother me or anyone else); but it's still not like he saw the show. I don't think GA's great for kids, unless there's a lawn or something to run around in. Or a balcony to go sit in if the crowd on the floor isn't kid-conducive. Just my 2 cents,-Laura

Just my 2 cents,-Laura I agree with you Laura. While I say I'm taking my kids to the Pines show if they have one, I'm planning on laying the blanket out in the back. The front is no place for little kids.
poppydawn
Yeah, it'll be a long time before I take my kid to a GA show. Taking more than one kid per adult? That's pretty rude, because there's no way to keep them all wrangled and entertained. It's also unsafe for the kids, which should be the parents' top priority. Ten years ago I was on the lawn at Lilith Fair. There was a woman next to us with a six-year-old, and that kid had a blast. They were there all day, and she was so well-behaved and had so much fun. The next year, we sat next to a couple with two kids who couldn't have been more than eight at an R.E.M. show (Wilco opened!). They, too, were wonderful. They behaved better than most of the idiot adults around us, but obviously enjoyed the show, as they danced and sang along with almost every song.
LouieB
Hi dad. Yea, I agree..no small kids in front for a GA show. I have seen rude adults put kids on their shoulders so the kids could see, blocking out adults who then can't. It all has to be done in a way that makes sense. If a child can't handle a long wait or is too young, don't take them. Older children (such as the above quoted TG) was always patient and somethat older (teenager), but even when she went younger, you have to be prepared to bug out if things fall apart. radiokills
I brought my 9 year old son and 5 year old son to see the band last summer...they both had a great time. However, it was an outdoor show on a beautiful summer night in the northeast. I say go for it - particularly if she is very familiar with Wilco's music - that increased the enjoyment for my kids a lot. im betting that was the show in boston. i forget the name of the venue, but it was so awesome.
