What I don't like about Wilco shows...

Recommended Posts

I don't like how I never know who to look at more!

Two nights in a row now, I've been so focused on Jeff and Nels that I am nearly completely missing out on just how amazing of a guitar player -- and showman -- Pat is! Truly, the only conclusion I can come to is that the band needs to play on a much smaller stage, possibly in single file, with spotlights to direct our attention where necessary.

But seriously, I hadn't picked up on the different strengths each member brings to the show in past concerts to the degree that I have noticed it in this residency, so far. Maybe it's the unique nature of the shows getting them pumped up? Maybe it's the hometown crowd? I don't know. But these are far and away the best Wilco shows I've seen. Hell, best concerts I've seen, period, really...

I wasnt there last night but you had to love Pat's Pete Townsend impersonation Friday night (think it was durring outtamind outtasite)

Anyway the one thing i really don't like about wilco shows is that they basically play the same show every night. I'm hoping the residency breaks this mold and leads to some variety.

Can't wait until Tues :)

Anyone notice Jeff staring at Pat during Walken? It was really really obvious -- he was shaking his head at one point. I couldn't tell if he was annoyed or in awe.

From my vantage point he seemed to have a small grin on his face. I thought he seemed to be digging it. I mean, how could you not? He's kind of hidden away over there for a fair portion of the show. When he gets out, he's showing off: good for him.

I was mad at myself I KNOW how they are set up and yet I walked to the right side to stand and so barely saw Pat...I was soo excited everytime I could see him I was yelling at my friend that I could see him...Speakers should be attached to the ceiling or something so we can all see Pat...lol

Pat played a really great lead during Boxful of Letters last night. Nels is obviously brilliant, but as another VCer said to me last night, there's something really, really good about Pat stepping up and playing a simple blues lick with conviction. It's something I'd like to see more often. beyond all of the Spinal Tapesque posing and posturing he plays some really sweet rock guitar and I for one love it.
