yltfan
Will there be an official release of the Wilco Residency Nights? What do you think? I think not. No indication of that from Stan or Ken...
bigideas
i wonder this too.for those of us that can't even see one night it would be great. just do it with cheap packaging like Pearl Jam did a few years back.probably have 5 seperate releases for each and then one ultimate box set for the great fan. this is too comprehensive to make a single 2 disc compilation or to even pass up at all! NoOneKnowsMe
Kicking TV resulted from 4 consecutive nights in Chicago. Just sayin'Yeah, but they acknowledged they were being recorded for a live CD and DVD.
bigideas
better yet, doing like phil lesh does (occasionally) and seed the board recordings on etree. or put them up as another thing one can access with their official copy of SBS.they already stream whole shows anyway.........why not go (5) steps further? Analogman
This is a great phantasy thread and all but - I'd grab the shows while they are still being seeded, if you want to hear them.
redstripe
I'd grab the shows while they are still being seeded, if you want to hear them.naturally. the first two nights don't sound half bad either. although, given the significance of the shows, i'd love to have more pristine versions. since it's totally unrealistic to want the new lineup to re-cut AM, this is the next best thing. also, if they do release boards, i can try my hand at 5.1 matrix mix. Analogman
I can dig it - but they would be edited - if the band released them. The way it is now, you get the whole deal.
Choo Choo Charlie
Well I'm not sure if this means it's destined for official release but the guys from Metro had their mobile truck out back at the Riv running multitrack. That's kind of a big expense - even for Wilco - if you don't intend on using the material. Otherwise, Stan Doty's soundboard recordings should've sufficed the band for playback purposes? Analogman
I find it hard to believe that they would have allowed tapers to tape if they were recording the shows in order to put them out as product.
ojo
I find it hard to believe that they would have allowed tapers to tape if they were recording the shows in order to put them out as product. why's that? audience recordings don't deter official release sales in the slightest. their liberal approach to taping sort of 'accepts' that anyway. jdmel
I find it hard to believe that they would have allowed tapers to tape if they were recording the shows in order to put them out as product.i agree, we couldnt even have cameras at the vic shows... I dont see this being released atleast until Wilco retrospective time, maybe with the kicking TV dvds... the band does record every show, but i think this would be tough to release because it would have to be realeased in its entirety almost to cover every song but there wereso many doubles. Are we expecting a 100 or so song compliation of the 5 nights? i could see that more than anything but still probably not. I hope they dont do that lame dave matthews bullshit and release endless live albums, i think KT rocks and these shows were great, if you didnt get to witness it - oh well, theres still half decent recordings, we dont need a cluttered wilco-verse of recordings, thats a slippery slope, as good as this band is live.. Analogman
why's that? audience recordings don't deter official release sales in the slightest. their liberal approach to taping sort of 'accepts' that anyway. Well, I was at one of the shows that was taped for the Kicking Television live cd - and there was no taping, cameras, etc. allowed for that run of shows. I think the deal with Pearl Jam is that they are putting out soundboard shows - and still allowing taping. They seem to do things a bit different. The same with The Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, Ratdog, etc. I don't really see the need for a bunch of officially multi-track recorded live cds/dvds. I mean, do they (Wilco) really play the songs all that different from the albums from tour to tour? That is one of the ways I judge a live album - anyhow. I figure a good AUD tape is just fine - would I rather here SBD shows? Sure, who wouldn't. I think it would be cool if they sold them - download only, no physical cd release - because that seems to be how it is pretty much done these days. I own several of those Pearl Jam live cds - do I really need them all? Probably not - but I did buy them. One of them - because I was at the show - and did not know much about live show trading at the time. You have to wonder how many times you will listen to/watch such a thing anyhow. At least, that is one of the ways I look at such things. I am really only interested in shows I have been to - although for the past 5 months or so, I have been grabbing every Wilco/Tweedy/Uncle Tupelo show I can find out there - but that is to help build an archive. I don't even really listen to them - except to check the files a bit. I could be wrong, of course.
laststopdmb41
I don't see why anybody would be against having more Wilco live albums. I am also a huge DMB fan and I love what they are doing with their live trax series. For those who really want another live album, please email the management. I emailed them a few weeks before the Residency in Chicago started to ask them if they were planning on doing another live album and they said not at this time, but they would keep it in consideration. Also when requesting songs on this tour, you can message the band...beg them to release more live stuff for those who want them! I figures if we let them know that we want live stuff, they will release it. Most bands give the fans what they want. I sure hope they release these five nights in their entirety. I'd pay 200 bux for it if I had too.
CalebMac
I hoping the show find their way onto The Owl & the Bear
bigideas
i guess i damned this thread by mentioning PJ... the PJ reference was mainly towards the packaging to keep fan cost lower. i didn't in any way mean they start releasing every show of a tour, ONLY this residency. the main reason being because they're playing their entire catalog - some songs that have never been played, etc. that's a pretty big freaking deal that should be documented - one would think in a commercial way. Wilco has a wide aged fan base (i would think anyway) so there are a lot of older people, people with slower connections, etc and people that live far away from Chicago that have no way to experience this. Jesusetc84
I think an official release is likely. It's an off year for Wilco; as in...no new CD coming out. Every off year since 2000, they've put out SOMETHING. (Okay save 2001, excuse me...they didn't have a record contract then...) How about they follow Radiohead's lead... a widely available double disc for retailers, and an online only deluxe edition for like 100 bucks w/ all 90 or so performed songs. yltfan
I hate to be a big downer here, but I'm really quite certain that it's not going to happen. Trust me on this. But folks should be happy that two of the shows were broadcast, and all of them were taped by fans.
