mollyegan
I just finished watching Kurt Cobain: About a Son....I have never seen anything like it. It isn't like a cheesy biopic or the like- it's very different. Cobain himself narrates. Here is the synopsis from Netflix: "In a series of evocative interviews with rock icon Kurt Cobain, journalist Michael Azerrad captures the late artist's inner thoughts and personal memories about life, music, success and failure. Director A.J. Schnack assembled intimate conversations into a poignant portrait of a creative genius and young man in pain. This emotional blend of imagery, music and voice about the infamous and elusive artist is a 2007 Independent Spirit Award nominee." I urge you all to watch...it's fantastic. W(TF)
I don't think your toddler will be offended, unless she can understand the expletives. We tried watching this a couple months back, it was awful. Yes, the audio is Cobain's voice, but the filmmaker clearly had not obtained rights to use any film footage, still images OR original music. None. Hence as a film it comes accross as a complete fake. This should have been a radio broadcast. I suppose really hardcore Cobain fans will enjoy it anyway.
mollyegan
I actually liked that you didn't even SEE Cobain until the end, and I thought it was refreshing to hear music other than Nirvana....that ground has already been covered. I should have included a disclaimer that a) I am from Seattle, so I loved the imagery and that 2. I MAY have been slightly...ahem- altered. I also don't really consider myself a die-hard Cobain fan...was I out of my mind? Did anyone else like it?
LouisvilleGreg
Azerrod wrote the pretty good Nirvana biography, Come As You Are and the near brilliant book on 80's punk, Our Band Could Be your Life, so he definitely has the credentials to pull this off.

From what I gather, it has garnered fairly positive reviews and word on the street is that it is a unique take on a well-worn genre, the rock star bio, so, don
imsjry
Haven't seen it, but reeks of exploitation if you ask me....

mollyegan
Oh and p.s. - is that fellow in your avatar, who appears to be thoroughly enjoying sausage, The Kids in the Halls's very own Scott Thompson? Good catch! It is indeed. That is from one of my favorite KITH sketches..."Sausages." It is THE weirdest, creepiest, most bizarre sketch I've seen from them. And that's really saying something. KITH Sausages I TOTALLY dig the boys, too and that was INDEED creepy!!! As for 'About A Son', I had every intention of seeing it at the theater when it came out but our plans fell through. I still would like to at some point. The only biography about Kurt that I read was 'Heavier Than Heaven', a few times actually.
