I have the whole Green River discography on vinyl and cassette and still give them an occasional spin. I got into them through liking Mudhoney before PJ existed. I never made the transition to Mother Love Bone and only went back and listened to MLB post-Ten being released. If I lived anywhere remotely near the area of this show I would definitely be there.

Kiss, Ramones Members Guest With Pearl Jam In NYC

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder on stage at Madison Square Garden

June 26, 2008 , 4:00 AM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Pearl Jam gave a nod to its classic rock influences last night (June 25) in New York, drafting Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley and Ramones bassist C.J. Ramone for guest appearances during the second of a two-night stand at Madison Square Garden.

Frehley turned up to play lead guitar on Kiss' "Black Diamond," which was mostly sung by drummer Matt Cameron, with guitarist Mike McCready, an admitted Frehley obsessive, handling the first verse.

As he'd done the night before, Ramone thundered through his former band's "I Believe in Miracles" with Pearl Jam. Frontman Eddie Vedder also saluted his guitar tech, Ricky Ramone, who had long worked for the late Johnny Ramone before joining Pearl Jam.

Frehley and Ramone weren't the only guests during the show. A local vocal trio, secured after a couple of phone calls from Pearl Jam personnel, was enlisted to sing on "All Night," "Who You Are" and "W.M.A.," all of which were either new to Pearl Jam's live set on this short tour or had been absent from the rotation for a decade or more.

During the MSG run, the crowd often reached deafening volume, taking over for Vedder on tracks like "Better Man," "Present Tense" and "Release," which opened last night's show.

The sets went heavy on material from the band's first three albums, with hits like "Alive," "Even Flow," "Daughter," "Corduroy" and "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" balanced by deep cuts such as "Leash," "Rats," "Whipping" and "Garden."

A healthy celebrity quotient was also on hand during the run, including the Olsen Twins, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon.

Pearl Jam proceeds to Hartford, Conn., on Friday and will play a private show back in New York next Tuesday to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation.

Pearl Jam Benefit Raises $3 Million For Charity

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder

July 02, 2008 , 2:00 AM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Pearl Jam packed arena-sized power into New York's 2,800-capacity Beacon Theater last night (July 1), rattling off an eclectic 26-song set list during a private show that raised $3 million for the Robin Hood Foundation's poverty fighting initiatives.

Frontman Eddie Vedder told the crowd, some of whom had paid $2,250 for floor-level seats, that he required a steroid shot in his posterior to get him stage-ready for the evening, the last show of a mini-U.S. tour for the Seattle band. Pearl Jam had played a two-and-a-half hour set the night before in Boston.

As such, the group eased its way into the show, playing seated for the first five songs, which included such obscurities as "Lowlight" and "Sleight of Hand" alongside covers of Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" and Bob Dylan's "Masters of War."

The band then shifted into its normal set, which went heavy on some of its more classic-sounding repertoire like the Motown-inspired rave-up "All Night," the sing-a-long "Marker in the Sand" and "Down," which showcased lead guitarist Mike McCready's blues-drenched leads.

Vedder was not shy about getting political, bashing the current Presidential administration's continued funding of the Iraq War and reminding the audience that the next time Pearl Jam returned to the New York area that there would be a new leader in the White House.

But the focus remained on the music, with the band offering a slew of crowd favorites such as "Wishlist," "Why Go," "Do the Evolution," "Black," "Crazy Mary," "Alive" and a thunderous, show-closing cover of the Who's "Baba O'Riley."

Pearl Jam will now transition into work on its next studio album, which will be produced by longtime collaborator Brendan O'Brien. Vedder is also expected to embark on an East Coast leg of his solo tour in August, showcasing material from his soundtrack to the film "Into the Wild" alongside deep Pearl Jam tracks and covers.

Here is Pearl Jam's set list:

"Lowlight"

"Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town"

"Sleight of Hand"

"Harvest Moon"

Is it just me, or does this section:

Motown-inspired rave-up "All Night," the sing-a-long "Marker in the Sand" and "Down," which showcased lead guitarist Mike McCready's blues-drenched leads.

make no sense at all?

They played "Undone" for only the third time too; that's pretty cool.
