kidsmoke
Or just another talented musician? Listen, then discuss. This Place Is Killing Me TBR&R You've got to be kidding. Sorry, Liam does nothing for me. And oh, I miss Elliott.
stickman
I miss Elliott too but give Liam another chance. His album really really grew on me. And my sister. And my two and a half year old cousin. Funny, another thing we agree on TBR&R.

Funny, another thing we agree on TBR&R. Well......maybe.....it just seemed so powder-puff lightweight. But I have friends who like him a lot, and some albums do surprise you by turning out to be "growers"......so, maybe another chance is deserved. Maybe.
Dr. Steve Brule
I absolutely adore Liam Finn and would consider myself an Elliott Smith fan. Liam lapses into some Elliott influenced moments for sure but Liam's songwriting comes from a completely different planet, as in Elliott had a much more tortured soul. kidsmoke
I need to listen again. Sounds like I've missed something. Maybe I was in a bad mood when I listened first. It just didn't spark for me.
stickman
I wouldn't force it on you because that seems to never work out, but the more and more I listen to it, the more I find songs that I can't get out of my head. I think you should listen to it when you're ready. Otherwise it's people pushing another album down your throat. Definitely not Elliott (because let's face it, Elliott was absolutely brilliant and tortured and no we won't see another like him for a while), but close and very good in his own right. solace
go see Liam live... if he doesn't convert you then, then it's not worth trying i don't get the Elliott comparison/comment whatsoever though...

Papillon Parade
go see Liam live... if he doesn't convert you then, then it's not worth trying i don't get the Elliott comparison/comment whatsoever though... Really? Elliot was the first person I thought of when I heard This Place Is Killing Me. That may be because I've only listened to a few songs so far though. I'm doing an album listen from begining to end this week...we'll see if I feel the same on the comparison front after that. I miss Elliott too but give Liam another chance. His album really really grew on me. And my sister. And my two and a half year old cousin. Funny, another thing we agree on TBR&R.
Dr. Steve Brule
I really do not understand him opening for Laura Viers. She is so fucking boring and I've sat thru her like 3 times now opening for people I love.
stickman
That's the only thing that's keeping me from going to the show in LA
KevinG
meh. Yeah he kinda sounds like Elliott, but is now where near the talent that he was. I'd be interested in hearing the full album though.
Papillon Parade
Ok, so who believes that Elliot would have been as good an artist had he not been plagued by personal demons? Do tortured souls create better music?

I'd be interested in hearing the full album though.maybe as a songwriter, no, he's also just really starting out... but as a musican, Liam is insanely talented. you have to see him live to fully realize just how though. he's a fucking incredible drummer. i think a lot of folks would like his old band Betchadupa a lot
