Beer exchange at work!

So me and a couple of friends at work who are into beer have started up a beer exchange... each of us brings in a couple of beers for the other one, whenever we can find something that we think the others will enjoy: obscure stuff.

 

Today I just received a couple of bottles of Ommegang Hennepin. It's a Trappist-Style that is from a brewer owened by Duvel.

 

I've also received some New Glaris Totally Naked and Bell's Oberon. (IL is still having some distribution troubles with Bell's.)

 

I'm brining in some New Belgium Mothership Wit and Abita Turbodog. This week.

I've been drinking the Mothership Wit, too, for the last few months. Excellent wheat beer. Crisp, light. Great for summer. Certified organic, too!

Hennepin is the f'ing BEST. Brewed by Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY! Ommegang opened in 1997, brewing in the Belgian tradition. They were so good at it, that Duvel bought them a few years back, saying "just keep doing what you're doing so we can learn from you..." imagine! The biggest Belgian brewer of all buying a little-bitty brewery in Cooperstown so that they could learn from them!

If anyone is taking the trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Ommegang is totally worth going to if you are in the vicinity at all. It is a newish building, but built in the vernacular barn style. Gorgeous! And great beer to boot.

I've been drinking the Ommegang Hennepin Farmhouse Saison lately. Good stuff. Its nearly 7 bucks a bottle by my house. Pricey but worth it. Is that around what ya'll are paying for it?

And higher gravity. Like the offspring of wine and beer in terms of alcohol content and complexity. Totally worth 7, but I think I used to get it (they don't sell it here) for closer to 5.

Wookies happened upon a case of Stone 11th Anniversary Ale while he was recently in Pennsylvania, and he came back and sold me some of them, along with a couple Double Bastards. There was also a bottle of Dogfish Head Palo Santo (his half of an exchange for a DFH Immort Ale) and some kind of wacky other beer which I don't feel like getting up and reading the label of. I am excited about this.
