Hideout Block Party

Recommended Posts

We could have removed a certain 10% of the population, put them in a separate room, and had an 80s theme party.
Sam explained this to me on Sunday since I had no idea what you were talking about. I think I got it, but frankly I can't figure out how anyone would want to try that hard to look like that.

You sure there isn't any Ratatat merch? :cheers

Seriously, it was really fun slinging all those T-shirts. Even though I don't live in Chicago, I guess I've been there enough over the years to get to know some of the people in the Chicago music community; to me, there's so much more of a community feel there as opposed to New York. And that's really epitomized by Tim and Katie and the Hideout. So it was great to get to hang and drink for free and see a lot of familiar faces all weekend. Sign me up for next year... :thumbup

RATATAT!!!!!

Whoa I am still tired.....

It really was great to see our somewhat famous local folks (Andrew Bird, John Stirratt, etc. etc.) just kind of hanging out with friends and family and not having to perform. All of these folks have played at the Hideout in their time and it is just like one big club house. It is a real honor to be even a small part of the scene.....even the New Pornos said they always end up at the Hideout no matter where in Chicago their actual gig is.

I was sort of sad to find out that Kelly Hogan, former bartender at the Hideout and regular back-up singer for anyone who showed up there has moved to Wisconsin. I guess we won't be seeing as much of her there in the future.

As you might imagine, this didn't make me sad. Neko mentioned at the Madison show that Kelly became a Wisconsinite in May. I wonder where she moved?

Somewhere near Madison, but in some small town. Someone will know soon.

yeah, there were a whole lot of ironic hipster mustaches (w/o beards) coupled with sweat bands and neon clothing. On girls, I noticed an inordinate number of short jumpsuits (wtf, are these back in style?).

Gawd, I know nothing about any of this I guess. Sam only pointed out the young women trying to look like 80's mothers or whatever. Having worn the same type of clothes my entire life I am just not really hip to any of this.

I am just waiting for the day that Chuck Taylors STOP being hip since I was pretty dismayed when everyone started wearing them, sadly just not in time to save American jobs when they used to be made here.

when i was in college, there was a converse outlet not far from me that sold chucks in all the colors of the rainbow. less desirable colors were only 10 bucks! sadly, the outlet closed when production moved out of the country. i've been wearing them since i was a wee lass and i remember my grandpa telling me he had worn them when he was young... i think they have always been hip :)

Way off topic now....I have yet to buy a pair of non-Americian Converses, but they day may be coming soon, since some of my old pairs have very little sole anymore. I still have one brand new pair of white ones, but I need a workable pair of black ones, since all of my are very worn. So it goes. Considering they are not made in the USA, they cost way too much.

According to Sam part of the 80s look is a pair of Keds, a brand of gym shoes I wore as a very young child. Strange to think they are also making a comeback.

Also a lot of those legging tights with no feet...'80s too. No one looked good in them back then and they still don't...

I didn't notice those at the Block Party, but then it was pretty hot last weekend.
