It was a great show, it was loose and the music was just fantastic. They were all hilarious. Ongoing joke was Emperor Palpatine's "That one" thing, applied to everything from politics to the next song they were playing. Another funny moment was the "fierce debate" that erupted when the scene in the Lord of the Rings where Bilbo flips at seeing the Ring (in fact, it was the first movie, not the last as the band thought). It was overall basically amazing.

 

The opener, Frank Fairfield, quite simply, was a folk musician. Basically was folk music in a nutshell, channeling Delta blues, and standard folk tunes such as Down the Willow Garden (which was played, but had a different name?). He sounded a bit like Woody and Robert Johnson blended together, which was interesting.

thanks, basil! i can't believe i've missed this band EVERY time they've been in my town.

 

yet, whenever i hear one of their songs on the radio, i crane my ear to listen.
