jcroach
Anyone have any good (or bad) experience with any online legal document prep sites, like Legalzoom.com, or any legal document preparation software? I need to create some very basic documents, like a will, advance health care directive, a trust for my son, etc.
IATTBYB
I am admittedly biased (member of the State Bar of Michigan) but I would recommend that you consult with an attorney for the preperation of your estate plan. While Legalzoom and other online legal document prep sites claim that they can prepare your documents in full compliance with your state's statutes, they cannont provide you with the personalized attention that a qualified attorney specializing in estate planning can provide. Each and every family has unique circumstances. An attorney who specializes in estate planning will have the knowledge and experience to assist you in creating an estate plan that best suits your family's needs and expectations. I have prepared numerous estate plans consisting of wills, POAs, Patient Advocate Designations, and Trusts. To make my practice more efficient, I have standardized forms that serve as the basis for my clients estate plan. However, I have never prepared an estate plan for a client that did not have significant changes to the standardized form.
jcroach
Thanks for the advice. I'm just trying to cover my bases before I spend any money. My son's godmother's father is an attorney and about half my fraternity brothers are attorneys so I've got several I can chose from!
Tweedling
Intead of an attorney why don't you just get a snake?
Party @ the Moontower
It's always a good idea to bury some cash in the backyard in case times get bad.
