KansasAl
never heard a thing about them. Edjamacate me. Seems as though they will be opening in Champaign.
caliber66
The only thing I know about the Great Lakes Swimmers is that they are not in Wilco.
IATTBYB
The only thing I know about Great Lakes Swimmers is that they tend to get hypothermia this time of year.
renic
i don't think we should be talking about this here.
caliber66
Actually, I lied. I also know Mark Holton is a big fan.
Sir Stewart
Actually, I lied. I also know Mark Holton is a big fan.Now I know why the mods came up with that rule - I don't know if you're referring to the actor or the ex-board member.
caliber66
Now I know why the mods came up with that rule - I don't know if you're referring to the actor or the ex-board member.I know this as well: Mark Holton (neither the real guy nor the dude who used to post here under that name) is not in Wilco. renic
are you sure?
TCP
They're a pretty good band. From Canada so you know they know how to folk.
Edie
If you play "Various Stages" over and over, it would be an awesome show!
TheMaker
never heard a thing about them. Edjamacate me. Seems as though they will be opening in Champaign. They're from my neck of the woods (the lovely Niagara Peninsula in sunny and snowy southern Ontario). They make lovely acoustic folk music that straddles the line between highly listenable and craggy Americana, sort of an answer to the question "What if Will Oldham led Iron and Wine?" They've got three LPs that I'm aware of: an eponymous debut, Bodies and Minds and Ongiara. You can check out a video for one of my favourite GLS songs here: Enjoy! I think they'll make for a phenomenal Wilco opener. Local boys make good, etc.
Kalle
They are absolutely fantastic, and I totally agree with the Will Oldham meets Iron And Wine comparison, pretty dead on there. I also found out that they will be coming through the Sault in the next couple months after their Tweedy stint and my band will be opening up for them!
PigSooie
I love this band.

TheMaker
Yeah, but it was dripping with irony, so it doesn't count.
Sir Stewart
Yeah, but it was dripping with irony, so it doesn't count. So wait - you don't like GLS? I took your statement as sincere.
TheMaker
Oh, I like the band, yeah. I was only being sarcastic with regards to my dismal stomping grounds. Before GLS, I had no idea that something so beautiful could exist amid such bleak and grotesque townie horror.
renic
my band will be opening up for them! this is great news!!!!!!!!!!!
