cryptique
Just got back from this. They gave us our money's worth -- at least an hour and a half, I think. There were a few first-show-of-the-tour flubs, but it was an amazing show, and featured much of the new album along with all the Jayhawks classics you'd want them to play. Among others, I was hoping for "Two Hearts" and "Settled Down Like Rain" and I got 'em both. The sound guy took a couple of songs to even out the mix (which was painful at first, as we were right under the main center loudspeakers and Louris' voice was up way too high at the beginning), but then it was nearly perfect. I could have used a bit more of Olson's voice in the mix, but it was fine, and their harmonies sounded great. GO to this show if it's coming through your town. Seriously. You won't regret it. Leo
Other than the mix problem on the first song, Rose Society, the show was just beautiful. The two of them should never consider performing without the other. They match so well. Couldn't have asked for anything more.Another memorable performance at the Ark. The place is a jewel. cryptique
Sweet! Do they play anything off Blue Earth I am obsessed with that album now!? I can't wait to see them on Saturday!I'm not sure they did, but I haven't listened to that album in a while ... and I discovered over the weekend that my CD has somehow deteriorated to the point where it's no longer playable ... like it rotted from the inside or something ... so I can't cue it up and check for you. They did play "Two Angels" from Blue Earth, but that's also on Hollywood Town Hall. There was plenty from Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow The Green Grass. Here's my recollection of what they played (broken down by album, accuracy not guaranteed): Hollywood Town HallWaiting For The SunCrowded In The WingsTwo AngelsSister CrySettled Down Like Rain Tomorrow The Green GrassBlueTwo HeartsOver My ShoulderNothing Left To Borrow Ready For The FloodRose SocietyBicycleTurn Your Pretty Name AroundSaturday Morning On Sunday StreetChamberlain, SDBlack EyesDoves and StonesWhen The Wind Comes UpLife's Warm Sheets Misc.Say You'll Be Mine (from Mark's album December's Child) Other stuff they might have played (can't remember for sure):Take Me With You (When You Go)I'd Run AwaySee Him On The StreetBloody Hands

cryptique
Excellent, thanks very much for that. My memory is a bit better than I thought. ...though somehow I forgot that they played "Precious Time." I've loved that song since Maria McKee recorded it for her 1993 album. Wendy
"Turn Your Pretty Name Around" was particularly lovely last night ... and NPR has it posted as "Song of the Day" today. The whole show was road-trip worthy for me. But The Ark is just a special, special place. http://n.npr.org/NPRI/jN12736722_34292.htm
Calexico
It was one of the best shows I saw last year too. Love to see them again sometime.
