remphish1
http://www.thebostonchannel.com/money/18648637/detail.html I understand it in concept but I hope this doesn't become a trend.
W(TF)
In computing/software services this has been going on for years. http://getafreelancer.com/ Jobs get posted as projects, and you compete with bidders from Tuscaloosa and Southeast Asia for the work. Sort of the fleabay of the software job market. Think you can build a basic website for $200? Someone else will do it better, for $35.

That's what I am affraid of...there is always someone who can do things cheaper. Its hard to do things cheaper when you have a steady stream of bills etc....
W(TF)
Yup. Plus the people in developing countries have a massive currency exchange advantage.......$3/hour for someone in Bangalore = quite a lot of rupees. (to generalize) Where we (N.Americans/Europeans) do have the advantage is in communication and understanding of our market and the culture. That still counts for something. dondoboy
This really isn't a new concept, just a different venue. This is how it works in construction, roofing, highway projects, etc.
remphish1
Yeah I realize this happens in some fields but the difference is those are companies verse an individual.
dondoboy
Yeah, I see what you're getting at. I guess the only thing standing in the way of this being the norm in all fields would be the minimum wage. Its pretty scary.
ZenLunatic
I still think quality work is quality work and it cost money and time. Anyone can do something fast and cheap, but thats what it will be. You can stand out of the crowd by your own individual quality. I can do anything. Fast, cheap, and good. But you can only pick 2 of the 3.
