I Shall be Released (with the Fleet Foxes)

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to figure out this one. Such a sweet song. The usual places on the internets leave me wanting. I am missing some walking bass maneuver on the "From the west down to the east" segment of the song. Any help?

G Am
They say ev'rything can be replaced,
Bm D ? G
Yet ev'ry distance is not clear.
G Am
So I remember ev'ry face
Bm Am G
Of ev'ry man who put me here.

G Am
I see my light come shining
Bm D ? G
From the west down to the east.
G Am
Any day now, any day now,
Bm D ? G
I shall be released.

It should be Bm to C then D the back to the root, G. So the C goes in the D spot then your D fills in at the ?. That's how I hear it. It's basically a direct replica of the Band's version of the song, so you may want to check for that. I think ordinarily the song is in E, however. Hope it helps.

Hmmmm.... I appreciate the input, but this still doesn't sound right to me. I do like your idea of moving C up a spot.

Maybe this:

Bm C C/B G
From the west down to the east.

Maybe wrong key. Try this:

C Dm
They say everything can be replaced
Em F G C
Yet every distance is not near
				 Dm
So I remember every face
Em F G C
Of every man who put me here

chorus
C Dm
I see my light come shining
Em F G C
From the west unto the east
		  Dm
any day now any day now
Em F G C
i shall be released

What do you guys think?

That sounds spot on to me... nice job. Sounds good at the Tweedy standard capo 2, as well.

Agreed. Capo II sounds right.

Feel free to throw in Csus4 at the ends of the lines for fillers, as well.
