cryptique
They've narrowed their list to 300 ... with this round of voting they'll cut it to a final 200. Cast your votes Vote for as many as you like. If I may, I'd like to take this opportunity to campaign for the inclusion of Wayne Thiebaud on your lists. I love his work. Who else are among your favorites?
dondoboy
I voted for my favorites, but those lists are strange. I'd never consider Thomas Hart Benton a "modern artist". And they leave out a few. But all in all a good list. Favorites: Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp, Philip Guston, Anselm Keifer, and Donald Judd. Painters mostly. Edit: They did leave out film makers for the most part. Some of whom are accomplished tactile artists as well. I would have voted for David Lynch, had he been there.
moxiebean
I Voted! Joseph CornellRichard DiebenkornMarcel DuchampIan Hamilton-FinlayPhilip GustonDamien HirstAnselm KieferRobert RauschenbergRobert RymanKurt SchwittersChaim Soutine Soutine, Guston, and Diebenkorn because when I look at their work, it makes me want to paint. Duchamp because you just can't ignore him (IMHO the most important artist of the past century, altho not my favorite). Schwitters, Cornell, and Rauschenberg because their work has had the most influence on my work (collage/sense of play). I like the concrete poetry of Ian Hamilton-Finlay, and the slicked-up death-obsessed work of Damien Hirst. Ryman's white-on-white squares have to be seen in person to really be appreciated, and Kiefer's the best living artist IMHO - I like the scale and physicality of his stuff, and his willfullness to address Big Topics in his work. If I had to pick just one it would be Rauschenberg - his stuff from the 50's-60's (combines, screenprint paintings, performances) is just brilliant.

bleedorange
Admittedly, there are a lot of names I haven't heard before. But my favorite artists list begins and ends with Edward Hopper. If I have time, though, I want to click on each name and sample everyone's work.
