Mother and Child Reunion

Recommended Posts

Alright,

So I'm a big Paul Simon fan. I've always really liked the song "Mother and Child Reunion" (and the fact that it was named after a chicken and egg dish. Think about it.)

After several listens to this song I realized that, I think, the first verse might be about the breakup of the Beatles.

Reasons why:

It came out in 1972 soon after the public breakup of the Beatles.

The first verse goes as follows:

Oh, Little darling of mine (possibly a reference to the same "little darling" in Here Comes the Sun)

I can't for the life of me remember a sadder day (then the day the Beatles called it quits)

I know they said let it be (a reference to the beatles hit/album "Let It Be")

but it just don't work out that way (a reference to We Can Work it Out)

Alright, fellow Wilco maniacs, tell me if I'm fucking nuts.

Have to admit, it seems somewhat plausible.

simon had a string of very cool, very quirky hits in the seventies

mother & child reunion ... me and julio ... kodachrome ... loves me like a rock ... et al

i was never a huge fan, but i always thought it was cool just how different those tracks sounded on AM radio once upon a time
