McCartney at Fenway Park (A Fab in Beantown)

Great show. Great venue. For a 67 year old guy, he can still put on a show. From Beatles classics to a couple of his newer songs I thought the show was very consistent. Being the third time I've seen him the excitement of going to the show wasn't the same as the first time but you get nothing but quality. Highlights for me were Live and Let Die which I'm sure woke the neighbors up in the Fenway with it's pyrotechnic display, Helter Skelter, Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, Get Back and his tributes to John and George. There were two giant screens on either side of the stage so you didn't miss a thing no matter where you sat. We sat 24 rows back mid right of the stage. My son and I were literally deaf walking back to the T after the show. It was pretty cool sitting in right center field. It was just as exciting for me to stand behind second base and take in the view of the infield and walk up to the scoreboard on the Green "Monsta" for a few pictures. Pretty weird looking back towards homeplate and seeing the ballpark from an on field perspective. It was also cool to revisit the bullpen where I used to work. Paul came on promptly at 8PM and played for 2 1/2 hours with two encores after a 6:30 start by MGMT who provided the crowd with commercial jingles. Kind of disappointing. Never really heard them before but Paul could have done with a better opening act. The weather was threatening in the late afternoon but by show time there was a nice breeze and a full moon over the right field stands. Great mix of old timers like me and the youngsters in the crowd. From what I heard and read there still are tickets available for tonight's show if you are in the area. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. I didn't make a set list but it did not vary from his past five shows on this mini tour. If I come across one I'll post it later. The one I found online had songs he did not play and I'm not sure it left any out.

So why did Darrell Johnson take you out of the game?

He wanted Cecil Copper to pop up to Pete Rose for me. I could have done that. He also had a thing for Jim Burton. By the way Can, did you ever return those porno videos that you forgot to return during Spring Training back in Winter Haven? Talk about esoteric references.

This was my 1st Paul McCartney show (Beatle show of any kind). It was beyond words. The most amazing and incredible thing I've ever seen and yes, for a 67 yr old he still packs quite the punch. My top three moments (can't pick just one), 'Something' (for George - I was a crying mess), 'Hey Jude' and 'Give Peace a Chance' (for John) - this one was a goosebump experience for sure. I've NEVER been a part of anything like that in my life. The whole crowd singing...no music...just beautiful...*sigh*

I am so lucky to have been able to be there!

Here are my shots:

Jim and John got a good shot of Paul when he first got on stage...I was still dicking around w/ my gear and was caught by surprise and missed it. we were all camped *way* back from the stage so everyone had the same perspective, shooting-wise.

screw those guys. i was the only photographer approved to shoot them as well, but they presented me w/ a photo waiver that transferred copyright to them, allowing them to use the photos in any manner they wanted w/o paying me one red cent. they wouldn't amend it either. no thanks.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Great shots. I remember the ones you took last year at Tanglewood. I think I bookmarked those. I'll do the same with these. Did you go to the second show on Thursday?

Another review with correct set list

Thanks! Nope, I didn't go last night. Also, you might have confused me w/ someone else as I wasn't @ the Tanglewood show last year...last two shows I've shot Wilco was the LeLacheur Park in Lowell, and when they opened for Neil Young last Dec.

It must have been the Worcester show then because I remember the name tinnitus. I was also at the MSG show as well as the Lowell and Tanglewood shows so I am obviously fusing the many shows I've been to recently. Good work none the less.
