WILCO - 10/16/2009 Ann Arbor, MI

Recommended Posts

So you were the guy trying to talk to Liam Finn and requesting Cinnamon Girl.

Haha yes. Afterwards I realized that he played Cinnamon Girl because he was in Canada. He played Kick Out The Jams since he was in Ann Arbor. Duhhh. My girlfriend kept telling me to shut up, and she was right for that, because I think they (especially Eliza) were thinking, "What the hell is this guy saying?"

Between Liam Finn's set and Wilco coming out, I told my buddy (who was seeing Wilco for the first time) how it would be cool if Wilco did a Stooges' cover in A2. I told him how UT did a cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog and how JT did it this spring at the Folk Festival in tribute to R. Ashton. When the lights went down and Wilco went into the opening of W(TS) my buddy looks at me and says "Stooges!!!" Until then, I never realized how similar the openings are between W(TS) and I Wanna Be Your Dog.

I was partly thinking of what your girlfriend said and thinking aloud what she was thinking, haha. I was one row behind and one seat to your left.

I promised Wendy (who stood next to me the entire show) that I'd post a link to the pictures I took at the show last Friday. Being an amateur, they didn't turn out quite as good as I would have hoped, but working at about a 10% rate of success, there were still some keepers from the 500 or so pics I took...just happy that neither security nor Jeff were upset with a 6'6" guy taking pictures from the 4th row.

Here's the link: Hill Auditorium

As for the show, it was my 12th time seeing the boys, and while it wasn't quite as mind-blowing as the Royal Oak show from the spring, they still managed to throw down...was particularly happy to hear so many YHF songs (Radio Cure and Ashes especially), but as one person already pointed out, no Summerteeth material was somewhat disappointing. And if I never hear Impossible Germany again, it'll be too soon!

Hope y'all enjoy the pics.

Thanks Matt! I appreciate you picking the cream of the crop for us. Very nice!

Funny you say that you're done with Impossible Germany. I was too, and then all of a sudden this tour I started liking it again for no particular reason! It's just weird! But good since they play it every show. :lol
